Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Alpha Five Ver 2

I just attempted to move my Alpha Five version 2 to a new computer with Windows XP. All I get is a dialogue box that says Alpha 5 and an OK button. Any ideas out there.

explain what you did to "move" A5. Did you reinstall from the original disks or CD?

Actually I tried both. I have moved the files en-mass before. When it did not work I used the original disks and ran setup.

          RE: Alpha Five Ver 2

As I was trying to fall asleep this morning at 2AM following News Years Eve, I had a thought pop into my head about Alpha 5. Don't ask me why but the idea just popped in.

The solution is so easy it almost got away.

on either your desktop icon or start-progrmas-alpha five listing right click. Left click properties and select compatibility from the box. Select Windows 95 and close.

double click on the A5 icon or start program etc.

          Ta-Da!

The compatability mode is something I found while working on a solution for another problem. By the way it did not solve that problem. That's probably why it didn't jump into my mind right away.

Enjoy, hope I'm not too late.

          Have Fun!

Your solution to install ver 2 worked great.
However now I cannot get labels to work properly.
Cannot open transfered lable files or newly created labels.

            Did yours work OK?

I hAve not used the label function, so I don't know. When I next use the program I will let you know.

If you are switching to Win XP we recommend that you use Alpha Five 4.5.

                Thanks

Note your upgrade cost in going to v4.5 will be fully credited against the upgrade cost in going from version 5 of Alpha Five which is currently in beta

DO YOU STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL DISCS FOR VERSION 2? IF YOU DO, I AM IN NEED OF A FEW DRIVERS. I INSTALLED VERSION 2 IN MY NEW COMPUTER. THEN I GOT RID OF MY OLD COMPUTER AND SOME JUNK PROGRAMS I DID NOT USE ANY MORE. YOU GUESSED IT, I SENT MY ALPHA DISC ALONG WITH THE JUNK. NOW MY COMPUTER SAYS IT NEEDS THE DRIVERS TO BE RELOADED. IF YOU HAVE THEM AVAILABLE, I CAN SEND YOU A LIST OF EXACTLY WHICH ONES I NEED.
                  THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR CHECKING,
                  FRANK

                              Fred,

Thanks for sticking with me on this. My computer guru will be here at my home Friday afternoon. He will make sure we ask for the correct items I need to get this program to work. Frank
