Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Printing Letter

While in viewing a "record" or particular page under the Letter
Tab I want to print only the current page viewed. When the dialog
box pops up for Printing there is no option in the print control
panel to print only the "current" page (as found in other Windows
    software).

We are using A5 version 4.03. Does a later version or fix correct
    this problem?

    RE: Printing Letter

The easiest way to do this is to design your letter as a report. Then create a form and on that form place a button to print the report. When the button genie opens, there is a place to select print only the current record.

Now open the form and select the record you want to print. The click on the button and the report will print for only the record shown on the form.

The button genie gives no way to select a print of a letter for just the current record; however you might try selecting print the "current selection of records" in the letter details and then select the record as above and print the letter using the button.

    Hope this helps.

Don't know what your version does but A5V3 has a print control that has the "print page __ to page __" option when CTRL-P is enter while reviewing a letter. The page number being viewed is shown on the status bar and can be entered in the option noted above to print a single page.

        Ken,
I never realized you could pick a page to print. Thanks.

          RE: Printing Letter

I'm aware of the print X to X page feature. Maybe I should have written the
application in another way. I'm viewing the various records in a letter format
and scrolling through them until I find the data or record I want to print.

I'm probably expecting too much of this software.

What I wanted was a built-in feature or script I did not have to work around
that would simply allow me to print the current record I was viewing at the
          time, like most app's have.

Frankly, I prefer the older dos versions of Alpha over the windows.
They seemed much faster to implement and easier to use with simple
          commands.

            RE: Printing Letter

DOS days were simpler days. However, A5 is many, many times more powerful than A4; but, I agree, more difficult to learn.

You can accomplish what you want to do by putting a button on your form. Put this script in the onpush event of the button:

            current_record = alltrim(str(recno(),10,0))
            :Letter.print("Yourletter","BETWEEN(RECNO(),"+ current_record+ "," + current_record+")")

The first line will capture the record number in a variable called current_record and the second line will print the letter for just that record only.

            Hope this helps.
