    Default Capturing and posting help

I used the script recorder to figure out my first issue, that was to post a note to a child table and print a letter. All is good.

Now I need to be able to use query by form to select records and capture all the customer account numbers. "Field (Our_File_number) then post a note to a child table with only those selected records. I explored Fetch but could not figure out how to use the command. I'm trying to learn Xbasic but slow in doing so..

    Thanks
    Art

Art, You have to give us more details!

"I used the script recorder to figure out my first issue, that was to post a note to a child table" - what does "post a note" mean. I ask because this might be able to drive the query and "post a note" is not common Alpha terminology.

"I need to be able to use query by form to select records and capture all the customer account numbers. " - probably not. If you can query by form, or other method, you might be able to specify "Current selection of records" for the posting, without ever worrying about what the account numbers are.

    Details please!

    Hi Stan,

What I mean is that I capture the account number from the parent table (Debtor_card) and enter a new record in a child table (Collection_notes. Whats what I meant by posting. The child table needs the account number then I want to add more information.

    The child tables structure is
    Our_File_Number
    Date
    Time
Action Code 2 Character field Ex: LS Letter Sent
Result Code 2 Character field Ex: D1 Demand 1 ltr
Collector Id 2 Character field Ex: AC

What I am trying to do is:
    1. Query the Debtor_Card for accounts I need to send letters to.
    2. Print those letters. I already set-up a Print button to only print to currently selected accounts.
    3. Then enter a comment into the child table of all those accounts that letters were printed that the letter was sent.

    Hope I was clear here.
Thank you for all the help you have given me.

I'm not clear on what code/method you are using to "capture the account number from the parent table (Debtor_card) and enter a new record in a child table" but it seems that is the point in time when you want to add the additional information. Why go back and try to find those records later.

Another thought might be, since it seems you are going to be filling the action code field for every child record as the letters are printed, is to just create an operation to fill in all the empty Date, Time, and Action Code fields.
