Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    New Date Problem

This is an old problem, but I am still trying to solve.
I have two date fields. One is DateAdded, the other Date Chgd.
I've tried several ideas, but still have a problem. The basic problem is I change data and add voter data on the same day and ten print out results. If I add a new voter on a day the change date field adds to today's field as well as the adddate field, so when I print out a report of Adds and changes both voters appear in report. I want to keep them seperate.

Any new suggestions should be appreciated.

    RE: New Date Problem

    Nip,

In field rules for DateAdded, make it User Entered then set the default value to date(). This will put today's date in only when the record is first entered.

In field rules set DateChg to a calc field, with the Calc expression being Date(). This will re-evaluate every time the record is changed.

Develop a print filter for todays new voters as DateAdded = Date(). Vice versa for voters changed.

    Hope this helps

      RE: New Date Problem

      Hi Tom

Thanks Tom. I have done this previously. If I add voters and change voters on the same day which do,the print out has both add and changed voters on same report sheet. I am trying to print just adds or just changes on day made.

        RE: New Date Problem

        Nip,

To recap: You're saying that when you enter a new voter both the DateAdded field AND the Date_Chgd fields are being updated with today's date. Then when you want to print a report showing only the 'changes', and not the 'enters' you're picking up the 'enters' as well as the 'changes' because the Date_chgd field was updated when the record was 'entered'. Right?

There may be a way to do this in field rules. However, I usually do these kinds of things at the form level, instead using short scripts that run before the record is saved. Would that be of use to you?

          Hi Tom

You have it right. I have changedate as a calculated value so today's date shows up in changedate field also, and both change and adds show up on report.
Yes I would appreciate any suggestion I could make in my form as that is where I do all the work.

          Thanks for your response

            Here you go.

Unzip the attachment to a separate folder. Do not mix it with your development work.

Use Form1 to enter or change records.
