Default Bandwidth Reqt's for remote admin/support

I would like to remotely admin/support/maintain a Alpha 5 V4 database ap over the internet. I'm setting up a VPN w/ frac T-1 or cable modem broadband connections. Has anyone done this or know how much BW is required for acceptable performance? What are the issues? Is a thin client required or suggested? Is the Alpha5 ap required locally?

Del, we use Netsupport Manager here and it performs ok over a dial-up.. superbly over anything greater than that. T-1 or broadband connections offer great response from it.

And it doesnt take a VPN... just need the client's IP address and away you go. Assuming of course they arent behind a firewall which doesnt allow port mapping, or behind their ISP's NAT.

    Hope this helps.

    Del:

The greater the bandwidth the easier it is to work at the remote location.

alpha developer or runtime must be on the local site.

I support 8 sites remotely, using VPN and dialup. PcAnywhere is used to access all sites.

    I hope this helps.

    Robert,

    Thanks for the reply.

On the PC Anywhere host end, do you have any problems with other local users being "bogged down" because of PCAW remote connectivity?

Have you thought about Terminal Server or Citrix?

Any feel for a minimum decent sized VPN connection? 128k? 384K? 512? ???
