Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Rich Text

In our application we have a table named "setup" that contains the users name, address, etc. This setup information is to transfer to the heading of an Invoice Form by using Rich Text.

We have tried, with no success, to add the setup table to the invoice.set, on a one to one basis, so these fields could be added to the heading of the Invoice Form.

The manual has been read and provided no help in this instance.

    RE: Rich Text

    James,

I do something like you describe in my apps, too.

There are probably several different ways to get the user's info on the top of the invoice report layout. Here's how I do it.

    1) When the app opens my autoexec script opens the 'setup' table, retrieve's the user's info, field by field, and stores each in a global variable.

    2) if the user edits the table, my data entry form for that table has been modified to update the related global variables when they make changes.

    3) In my report layout I declare global variables with the same names as used in my autoexec script and then drop them into the layout. This permits the user to update the invoice report if their area code or zip code changes, or even if they move to a new location.

    Works like a charm.

      RE: Rich Text

      Tom,

Is there a way to accomplish this using Rich Text tool and somehow picking up the fields from the setup table and placing them on the invoice form?

I can make a report using just the setup table and place the fields using the Rich Text Tool. However, after adding the setup table to the invoice table, I can place the necessary fields from the setup table onto the invoice form, but when printing the fields do not show. Any text such as the period after the city field does show.

        RE: Rich Text

Jim, if the setup table were linked one to one with the parent table in your set it should work just like any other field in the parent table. Just drop the rich text object on the report layout (page header section?) and then drag / drop the fields on to the rich text object. -- tom

          Tom,

I made the set again, but instead of One to One I chose One to One(closest match). It worked. Have no idea why this would make a difference.

            James,

It's hard to tell from here, since we can't see your tables, or your set design. My guess is that the way you were defining the link, and the key field values in each table, explain what you experienced.
