Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Windows or Alpha

    Hi Phorum,

Is ODBC32.DLL a Windows file or an Alpha file, or is it a Windows file
modified by Alpha? Whatever it is, what folder should it reside in? I
am still getting the message "Can not find ODBC32.DLL" when I try to
launch A5V4. Please help, I need to get back to work.

Any advice wil be deeply appreciated,
    efs

    RE: Windows or Alpha

    Ed,

ODBC is Open Database Connectivity and it's a Windows program designed to permit other applications to connect with external databases instead of requiring the external database app itself. It's how Alpha Five can connect to and read Access files, for example.

I think it belongs in C:|Windows|System.

    Put it there.

    Reboot.

    Reinstall Alpha Five.

If that does not work, then you should visit the Microsoft site and get instructions on how to install ODBC on your system.

By the way, are you working with Win 95? I ask because more modern systems include ODBC from the get go. Maybe you need to install it from your op sys disks?

Ed, if this feels like familiar ground, it should. You had a similar problem before.

        RE: Windows or Alpha

        Hi Tom,

I am still usung W98 on this machine that way I can talk clients through their problems over the phone. Stan Mathews sent ODBC32.DLL to me and I saved
it to C:\Windows\system but it still couldn't find it, next saved it to
C:\program Files\A5V4, still couldn't find it, finally copied it to
C:\Windows, still couldn't find it. In between each copy, I reloaded
A5V4 and rebooted. Maybe I should use the regcleaner and delete A5,
        then reload it.

          Tom,

BTW, I am using A5V4.5 original, can't get up and running to load the
          update patches, not A5V5.

Ed, I suggest you spend some time in the Microsoft tech support pages online to find out how to add support for ODBC to your win 98 system. It's available on your win 98 system CD, but I don't recall the specifics on how to install it.

              Hi Tom & Phorum,

I removed all files in the C:\program files\a5v4 and then cleaned it
from the registry, then reloaded. It woks fine now, thank you all.
