Drop down list to Choose New Form

Is it possible to use a drop down list to choose a new form? Once the form is selected from the list, have the current form close and open the new. If this is possible please give me the basics of how to do this. I am having a hard time visualizing how to tie a script to the selection. I want to use the drop down list in order to save space on the form. Currently I have a dummy form (main menu) that the operator can select a form. I am trying to prevent this one step.

Philip,

One approach would be to populate an array of character strings with names corresponding to each form that you want in the list. Then use the ui_get_list_array() function to display them for the user. This could run from a button on your form with a label like 'Jump To?'

When the button is pushed the OnPush script would load and display the array. (The array could be initialized at startup, using globals if you wish). The user selection could be used in the same OnPush script to identify which form to open.

You could go to the code tab of the control panel and select new and select menu, then add the same code you would use if you added a button on a form.

Parentform.close()

Go to the form, Properties, Menus/Toolbars and select the menu you just created.

The problems you will hit, as I have not resolved yet, if you try to open the form you are on a second time from the menu bar, you will close the application! Not good.

So parentform.close() needs to be able to check to see if the form called is the same as the form calling, then cancel().

Tom, I just found time to try this and it will do what I want. What I did was put a number at the start of each choice, that way all I have to do is a substr of the first two characters to define the form I want using IF statments.
