Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Button on form

    I have a form with an embedded browse table. The child is limited to 20 records per parent. I have placed a button on the form. When the user presses the button, the cursor is to move from the parent to the first field, next row in the browse, then return the cursor back to the parent. After the last row is reached (selected), I want the cursor to loop back (up) to the first row in the browse. The following code works perfectly with the exception that it does not loop back (up) to the first row. That's because I
    don't know what code is required to make this happen. This was easy as heck to do in Alpha 4.

    ui_freeze(.t.) 'freeze the screen
    BROWSE1.Activate() 'activate the browse
    this.restrict_change = .t. 'make browse read only
    BROWSE1.down() 'move down one record
    parentform:fliteno.activate() 'return to parent form,
    'select first field
    ui_freeze(.f.) 'turn on screen

    Thank you,

    browse1.fetch_first()

    or

    parentform:browse1.fetch_first()

      Jerry,

      Right, but how do you tell the script when to execute your code? i.e. when to loop back to the top of the currently displayed list of child table records? Do you test for eof after each row change, and if eof is true, loop back? Might work.

        ui_freeze(.t.) 'Freeze the screen
        This is my latest attempt which does not work. Pressing the button scrolls down the browse, but upon reaching the last row, the pointer just stays on that row. I thought this code would read the row where the pointer was, read the row where the pointer was after the fetch_next command, and then compare the two variables to each other. If the code is working properly, the two variables row and nextrow are never equal. In Alpha 4, it was possible to read what was stored in variables. Is that possible in Alpha 5?

        BROWSE1.Activate() 'Move pointer to browse
        this.restrict_change = .t. 'Make browse read only
        child_tbl = table.get("tlleg")
        row = child_tbl.recno() 'current record number
        BROWSE1.fetch_next() 'move to next record
        nextrow = child_tbl.recno() 'new record number
        IF row = nextrow THEN
        BROWSE1.fetch_first()
        END IF
        parentform:fliteno.activate() 'set focus
        ui_freeze(.f.)

          I mess up. the code should look like this.

          ui_freeze(.t.) 'Freeze the screen
          BROWSE1.Activate() 'Move pointer to browse
          this.restrict_change = .t. 'Make browse read only
          child_tbl = table.get("tlleg")
          row = child_tbl.recno() 'current record number
          BROWSE1.fetch_next() 'move to next record
          nextrow = child_tbl.recno() 'new record number
          IF row = nextrow THEN
          BROWSE1.fetch_first()
          END IF
          parentform:fliteno.activate() 'set focus
          ui_freeze(.f.)

            Ron,

            The attachment contains an example that may be helpful to you.

            Unzip it to a separate folder. Do not mix it with your development work.

            Have fun.

              Try adding a
              Browse1.refresh()
              after the Browse1.fetch_first()
