Genral Questions about Alpha 5.

Hello,

I was wondering if anybody could answer two questions for me about the latest version of Alpha Five.

1) Can you undo a deleted record. I have V3.01 of Alpha and I cannot undo a deleted record. It asks me if I want to delete the record but I cannot undo that if I changed my mind. So in the new version of Alpha Five is there a way to undo this?

2) Is there a way to make it so that it'll warn you if you've made changes to a record before saving it when you hit the F8 button. Meaning it automatically saves the record I was editing in the form when I press F8 to go to the browse without warning me that changes have been made and asking me if I want to abondon the changes. With the newest version of Alpha 5 does it do this?

Andy, you're on to something I had not noticed. I replicated your moves with the same result. It DID save the change without comment when [F8] was pressed. I noticed also that the Alpha menubar's 'Form' drop down menu is entirely greyed out BUT the [F8] press STILL operates! ! !

This is apparently another 'modeless data entry' regimen that A5, V5 is addressing.

Andrew,

I have reverted to opening the table with a4v6 to undelete a record. I only did this one time and realized how careful I must be to not delete if I wanted to keep a record.

I hope someone here knows a better way.

Compacting the database or packing the table completely removes the record, so a4v6 can't help.

In the Code Archive section I think you will find seversl things that will help.
1) Ira Perlow has an undelete UDF.
2) Tom Cone has a download available for basic data entry that addresses acidentally saving a record.
You can disable deletes in a form's properties and allow marking records. Packing will not get rid of marked records.You will have to run a delete operation on all marked records first, then pack the table to permanently ger rid of them.
