Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Check boxes

    Hello
I was wondering if someone can help me out.
I have a table called Inspection, which is one of the child tabels in a set. Now i have a form from the Inspection table which has check boxes in. There are 12 fields in my Inspection table, plus one more for the id. Now each of the 12 options needs to be checked when first opened, and after that the user has the option of removing any of the selected checked items, so if he does nothing all items would be accepted. The true value for this is "Y" and the false value is "N", now when i do this at the moment the fields are not checked, they need a mouse click to check them, but i would like it to be checked at the start then the option of removing any selected items.
Can anyone help me do this?

    RE: Check boxes

You only need to set the values to true for each of the fields for the boxes to appear checked.

When to do this is the question. Do you want the boxes to appear each time the inspector opens the form? Do you want the boxes checked only when creating a new record?
    There can be only one.

      RE: Check boxes

      Hello, thanks for the reply

So the Inspector is on another form, then he wants to update the Inspection, so he would hit a button and that will bring up the form i am trying to create. Now this form should have all the 12 inspection options on it, but next to it should be a check/tick box. That tick box should be ticked to indicate that the inspection took place. Now if not all 12 inspections took place, then the inspector would need to untick the selected inspection. Therefore this would need to take place each time a new record is created, which would be when the button is pressed to open the form.
      I hope this can help?
      Thanks

        RE: Check boxes

I think it is important to remember that you are actually doing two different things, creating the new record and setting the form values to true.

I'm sure your inspectors never do this, but my inspectors sometimes get halfway through and then need to quit or realize they have the wrong record, etc., so they need a cancel button on the form to quit without saving the record.

So, I think you want the checkboxes ticked as a form field, but not saved until the inspector pushes a save button. But, that is only if the inspecotr is creating a new record, not looking at or updating an old one.

So, you could create a button that creates a new record (maybe called "new") that loads a form, sets the checkbox values to true, then shows the form. Each checkbox has an object name, something like "checkbox2", and you can use the command
        :yourformname:checkbox2.value=.t.
for each of the checkboxes. Then put a save button and a cancel button on the form.

Then on your origianl form, you can put a button named something like "review" that calls a similar form but without the checkbox value setting statements.
