Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Easter egg for your Alpha Five apps

With the winter holidays fast approaching, what could be more appropriate than easter eggs, right? So here is a game I made for Alpha Five v4.5. Im not sure how backward compatible it is, I think it may work with A5v3. Feedback on this would be appreciated. Your screen resolution should be at least 800x600.

I hope you all like it.

    -Bob
p.s. I will post this to the Code Archive as well, lets build a collection of fun stuff.

    Hi Robert
How fun! Didn't realize you could do that. Very cool! Always a thrill to see what people can do with this software. Thanks for the upload!

Just as with that thread on screen shots it is hard to believe the variety of things people come up with using the same tools.

My consciousness has been expanded (yet again) by this board.

      Thanks Robert,

"Didn't realize you could do that"

Honestly, I didn't either until I sat down and did it. I've been telling clients for years that there's virtually no limit to what you can do with A5. The smoothness of it surprises me, even on a K6-233 the game play is smooth.

In retrospect, it was actually easier than I expected, and I still learned a lot. I feel that this is "a good start" to exploring the power of A5.

I'm also glad it's not just me that thinks this game is fun!

          Cheers,
          -Bob

p.s. my client/boss threatened to kill me when I showed him the game... he couldn't stop 'til he beat the hi score. ;-)

Just open the form in design mode. All the code is there.

That to me is the big surprise: how much can be done using form-level events. There is much to contemplate here.

                Bob,

I, my wife, and kids really enjoyed the game.

Great idea! It hopefully will stimuate some further thinking of other non-traditional stuff that can be done with Alpha Five and Xbasic.

Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks - it's a great game. And the programming is so straightforward. Dorothy

As noted in the readme, my high score is 80... after more than 16 years! That was in this version, just the other day.

Cool game! Anyone that tells their score MUST provide the screen shot for proof. My 13 yr old son Joey has 59 on the 3rd try. I can't get over 35.
