Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    A2RBASE.DLL error

Using a script I create a special file for a report. I put a sleep(3) at the end if it to be sure the script was finished.

The report loads and "previews" perfectly. But when I print to any printer (tried installing several different printers, both as printers and as 'print to file') or WinFax I get the error message A2RBASE.DLL in the 'look ahead' process. All other reports work okay.

The report has many calculated/summary fields, that all display correctly on the preview.

    Only crashes when I 'print'

    any ideas

    Martin,
Sounds like you have a script that creates some work records then calls a report. If you have one button that generates the work table and a second button that prints the report, can you then print the report to a printer??

      RE: A2RBASE.DLL error

      Hey John,

I created a small app with two reports the one that works and the one that doesnt. Note that they are identical except for a calc field called Header used in the one that doesnt work. But note that you can copy the report and remove the calc field - and it will still fail. Very sensitive!!

Yes one button calls the global script and then calls the report - but the same thing happens when I independently run the script and then run the report.

The problem is with the report calc fields. I am totaling accross in 3 cases in details, and both accross and down in two group footers and then in the "grand totals" in the report footer.

I noticed that I had several versions of the report - that I was saving as I was developing the report originally. I went back one, and it works. I found two other people that had the same problem, a year ago or better, by searching the board, but there were no resolutions reported - so I don't know what they did.

When I have more time I am going to see if I can isolate the cause. But it is a real bugger as it is so sensitive that if I add any more calculated fields or change or remove any it crashes. E.g., in the earlier version that works, I can remove one calculated field and it will crash. But then when I replace it it still crashes, and the only way I can get it to run again is to recopy the earlier version back again.

One work around would be to add extra fields to the "report table" and do the "accross" totals with the script. That way all alpha has to do is accumulate down. I'm pretty sure it fails as it has to make more than one run through with the data because of the accoss calc fields. It would be a lot easier to "debug" if it didn't preview - but it always previews perfectly - only when I print does it crash.

        RE: A2RBASE.DLL error

        solution:

I was having the "accross" totals in the two groups and grand totals recalculate accross based on the group totals and grand totals, instead of just totaling the accross totals for the groups and grand totals - when I made that change, the sensitivity went away.
