Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    print on 5.5" long form

    Hi Phorum

I have a receipt form to fill out that is 5" wide and 5.5" long. I would like to think that it could print during testing on a standard 8.5" X 11" sheet of paper. I have the custom size set in the report properties for the above size, yet it prints 1 report per page, I would expect it to print 2 reports per page during test

    Thank you for reading,
    efs (not 7ZNJABB)

      RE: print on 5.5

      Hi Dave,

I use a Brother 7300C. In printer setup for that report, I have set the page size as well as setting the margins on the report to the same values of the printer.

      Thank you for responding,
      efs

        RE: print on 5.5

I've had some problems printing a special size to a dot matrix. Here's what I have found:

If you design using a different printer than the Brother, it's sometimes tricky getting the spacing correct, as well as the number of sheets (as you have found).

First, design on the Brother if you can, and make sure you have the correct drivers. Then, make sure the default printer is the Brother. Then make sure your settings haven't changed (this sometimes happens). (I've found that with one customer, the program would "remember" the wrong printer the first time, and print one per 8-1/2 page. After that, it seemed to be OK).

          I remember now

In alpha I used a label sized like I needed it

I also do not know about the Brother, but many printers do not have standard no-print sections (margins)that can throw you way off.

Example: HP550 has top of .33 inches per sheet and .67 bottoms

The more expensive report writers for continuous printing of odd sized forms on a dot matrix, you would set the top and bottom report/form to 0.00 margins and page size to maybe 2.66" high

          Good Luck

...but don't printer drivers for most inkjet and laser printers issue a formfeed when all of the printing is complete on a page, and wouldn't that move to a new sheet no matter what length is set in the application for the page length?

              Hi Dave,

Your thought of a big label is pretty good thinking, I gotta give that a try.

              Thank you,

                  Hi Bill,

I am setting it up on the Brother (which I can set custom size paper and did just that), but the user will print out on a dot matrix, dunno right now if it can be set for custom paper.

                  Thank you,

you are right about injets and lazers, however labels in alpha lets you put more than 1nrecord on a sheet

Another, but more complicared way might be with subreports

                      hello Dave,

I tried the label thingy, but it is very resrictive as to where the fields are placed.
