Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Frozen tabbed subform

I have a form based on the following set:
    Sales_Order 1:n customer
    1:n Sales_ord_detail.
I have a tabbed subform on the form. The top Tab contains basic sales info of which custid is one. This field has a table lookup defined and this info is drawn from the customer table in the set. The second tab contains an embedded browse of the sales_ord_detail table. The user enters a new sales order in the first tab he then uses the custid popup lookup to select a customer. The user then selects the second tab to enter sales order details or items. There are three buttons on this tab "add records ","edit records","delete records". When "add records" is pressed a script opens the sales_ord_detail table adds a record closes the table then it calls up a form to allow the user to edit it. After adding a few records the intent is to allow the user to click on the top tab and edit the sales order record. Everything is fine until we try to click on the custid to get a popup of the customer table. The whole system freezes and when you click on it again it makes a bell noise. There is no way to close except to ctrl-alt-del.
    Any ideas?

    RE: Frozen tabbed subform

    Greg,

Is the custid popup activated by a button? If so, try deleting and recreating the button. If that doesn't do it, check all realtive areas of code. You may have to delete it and redo it. If that doesn't do it, recreate the popup custid form.

This may seem tedious but it's the only way to track it down. (That I know of)

Knowing what you can achieve will not become reality until you imagine and explore.

      RE: Frozen tabbed subform

I think I fixed it! I designed this app so that the user can only enter data via dialog forms based on a single table. See Peter Greulich's example, search for "Interface Question". From what I have read on this board this is the safest way to edit and add data. I created a form based on a set for display purposes only and I created buttons based on Peter's design to pop-up dialog forms to enter or edit data. My problem is that the first tab contained the fields to the parent table and I was adding or editing through the set. This can cause problems when I click on the second tab to add or edit records to the child table. I realized that I had only adopted half of Peter's design.
I finally fixed the problem when I put an embedded browse into the first tab and made it read only just like I did for the second tab. Then I setup a dialog form for data entry that was activated by a button on the first tab. No crashes, yet!

      Thanks
