Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    RE: Im confused...

The advice from this messageboard will be to use Alpha 5 v4.5 because we wouldn't be here unless we thought it the very best.

One exception might be if you already have something fully developed and ready to go in Access - but then you wouldn't be asking.

There are members here familiar with several of the programs you mention. If you need a special setup or function, ask about that. Otherwise, Alpha 5!

      RE: Im confused...

      Claudio,

Here is the only answer you need to make a "no-brainer" decision.

A5....................Why? Because of this message board. No other app has a message board that comes close to the help you get on this board. I've tried Paradox and used Access. Even if A5 wasn't easy, I'd still choose A5.

Now, the question really is....Will you take our advice or buy a 2nd or 3rd class product?

        RE: Im confused...

        Claudio:

You've done really well in A4 and, really, A5 is better. I've been fooling around trying to learn it for several years and just recently - 4 months ago - got serious about learning it.

You can apply a lot of your A4 THINKING about menus, forms, and scripts, but you just do it a different way in A5. I've tried Access - didn't like it. Tried FoxPro - didn't like it. I kept coming back to Alpha5 and someone would have to kill me to take it away now.

I got crashes and error messages all the time and then, I started reading this board. These guys are uncanny in the ways that they help. It seems that they're just waiting for another challenge to help someone with. You'll learn more here than any book.

Thanks a lot Ken,for your words, thats what i wanted to hear...a wide explanation about "why A5?".
          Its ok .
Now i will try to do my best to make some good applications and next step it will be buy the runtime and try to make a little business.I was using MsAccess and i must say that id like it but its becoming too complicated and the runtime its too expensive!!
Thanks again and i see you around the net.Bye and bye to your brazilian friends too.
          Best regards from Claudio

          P.S.
          Im less confused...but...
see you at the next challenge,be ready :)

            RE: Im confused...

            Claudio,
I am new to Alpha and DB programming. I have had a little experience in trying to create apps in FileMaker Pro and Access. I can tell you I would choose Alpha! The support alone from this forum would sway me.
The product is wonderful and so are the "guys" in this forum. Not only are they knowledgeble re: Alpha, but are always willing to answer dumb newbie questions.I usually get a response to a question before the day is over. You can't beat that for support.
Thanks guys...for all of your help recently. I really do appreciate it!!!!

              Hi Claudio
I've been checking out Alpha 5 for about two weeks and love it. I've been working with FileMaker for about 10 yrs and have a developer's edition which after moving everything over to Alpha 5 and getting it up to speed I will get a runtime editions and then go to the FileMaker list say guy I've got a Developers Editions for sale real cheap.

P.S I looked at 4-D,Omnis Studio, and came across Alpha on a Access lists and it's was the best thing on the list
