Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

UK Post Codes (like ZIP, but not!)

    Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know if the ZIP code add on for A5V4.5 is available for UK Post Codes?, I would be really handy, and make an employee of mine very pleased.

    Regards,

    Richard

    Richard,

You could try Quick Address for windows if you require a lookup to the PAF postcode file (QAS.com) also try looking at afd.co.uk, not as slick as qas.

The light version retails for about 100.

It sits in the background of windows, so if you are datacapturing in a5, you press alt+q and enter the postcode, it will then supply you with a full address, including the house number (I am pretty sure that's on the light version).

I use Quick Address Lite with Alpha 5 and it works very well. You have to input the house number or name and QAS fills in the address after you have input the postcode.

I use the latest version of AFD Postcode (100 + 99 pa Royal Mail licence which includes latest updates) It now comes with a "robot" function which allows automated postcodes for virtually any app. My A5 applications are a breeze. Set up so that you enter house number and postcode in postcode field and automatically fills all address fields (including std code for phone number) If no house number entered cursor positions itself at the start of the street field.

        Highly recommend it.

I also use quick address with alpha5 the postcode is entered into a5 which fires quick address & then you can pick from a list the correct address (IE house name/no) hit enter and the details are pasted straight into a5 form. I have 25 telesales people using this in a speed sensitive situation and it works extremely well.

I have a version of the PAF in Alpha5 which we use constantly for data capture. It can be used as a stand alone lookup or you can link it into your own database to auto fill address fields.

Bad news is that with the Numbers and Organisation fields included it takes 860mb.

I am sure that if we cut it down to street info only we can get it onto CD-ROM and we could provide quaterly updates in line with the Royal Mail updates.

Let me know if you are interested.

I work for a small warehousing part of Oxfam and we use Alpha5 V4 (5 User license) as our stock location database. We would be interested in joining a UK Users Group.

                  Thanks for your response,

I eventually purchased AFD post code which has a rather clever 'robot' that can be quickly programed to detect that a post code has been typed, and fill the fields directly into the A5 application.

                  Cheers,

                  Richard.
