Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Two Queries on a table at the same time.

I am using only one table. I open two instances of it tbl1=table.open("Table") and tbl2=table.open("Table"). I run a query for all marked records on tbl1. I then run a query to find all matching records on tbl2. Then I need the count of the queried records in tbl2. It always turns out zero even when there are records in it. After the script is finished I check the table and it is stuck in change or enter mode with no records displaying. I have to click the show all button in order to view the records in the default browse. And I cannot change the current index.

When I have two queries running on the same table it gives me zero.

    Sorry if I am confusing.

RE: Two Queries on a table at the same time.

    Jamin,

I'm not the expert here but it sounds like one query is competing against the other. If Qry1 is in effect and then you run Qry2, it will only query what's already been queried. Unless you want to query the queried records, you must show all first. If two queries are supposed to be in effect at the same time, you'll need to do it w/one query.

Knowing what you can achieve will not become reality until you imagine and explore.

RE: Two Queries on a table at the same time.

I assume you are not doing this using QBF, and that the queries are being defined and executed in xbasic scripts. I also assume that your goal is to run a query which returns records that have been marked and which match certain filter criteria.

If so, after the appropriate records are marked, have your script close that instance of the table and release (drop) the query that was used to find the records for marking. This will in effect show all.

Then, modify your second query filter to return both marked and matching and run it against the full table. Remember to release (drop) that query, too, when the script is ending...

        Thanks Tom and Ken.

I knew they were conflicting but I was checking my options out. Sometimes people just have easier ways of doing things.

        Thanks again

RE: Two Queries on a table at the same time.

          Hello Jamin,

You should be able to open as many instances of a table and run queries on each one until you run out of memory and disk space. Try this:

          t = table.open("tablename")
          t.index_primary_put()

Then the rest of your script.
This forces the the record number index as the primary index, now you should be able to query sucessfully from there.

          Good luck,
          Jim

RE: Two Queries on a table at the same time.

i think you had better show your actual code. there
should not be any reason why you can't run 2 queries on
the table - each table pointer should behave independently
            of the other.
when you say you run the second query to obtain "matching"
records, what do you mean by "matching"? matching what?
