    Passwords in A5v4.5
I have two problems that I am struggling with:

I have developed an application with a password entry screen for multiple users; each user has to enter their name in one field followed by their password in the second field. How do I make the password field enter ****** so that the password can’t be seen. A4v6 has a built in feature to do this but I can’t find this feature in A5.

I have developed an application to run with A5 runtime. There are buttons, which have passwords to access various parts of the application. How can I let the client change the password on the buttons? When I get the button properties the password is not retrieved?

John, Alpha Five has a special dialog box that helps in this situation. Check out the ui_get_password() method in the xbasic ref. manual.

On your second question, the runtime users are not permitted to modify form layouts... so they can't open a form in design mode and change the properties of a button, for example. You could re-write your button's script to look to a local file on each user's workstation. that file could contain a password or password list created by the user. Your script could compare the current operator's input with the local list to see if that person is authorized to push the button. Routines to maintain and modify the local file would need to be added to your application, so that each user could customize their own password list for these buttons.

You can use this sample as a guideline for a Password system

    Hi All,

I am eager to see how Daniel has approached the password problem. I only want to add that Version 5 promises built-in security and encryption including user profiles and privileges which I am also eager to inspect. I wrote such a system for my own application and at the time I thought this was such a generic application feature that it deserved to be part of the program itself.
