Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Font Problem

I just got a new computer (Gateway AMD Athlon 1100 Mhz) and reinstalled Alpha 5V4 on it. On my previous computer (Pentium II 400 Mhz), my data in my forms appeared as vertical print whereas it now appears slanted (like italicized). It also prints out my reports slanted. When I browse the same form, the data is not slanted. When I go into design and look at the properties of the data, it reads Arial (not italicized).

Can anyone help me on how I can change the default of Alpha 5 so the fields all appear and print like they appear in the browse (non-slanted/italicized).

    RE: Font Problem

Quit Alpha, open Windows Explorer, navigate to the Windows, Fonts folder, copy Arial to a backup location, delete the Arial fonts in the Fonts folder, count to three, delete the Arial font that reappears, choose install new font from the file menu, navigate to the backup location and choose your saved copy of Arial, install.
    There can be only one.

      RE: Font Problem

Thank you, Stan, for your quick response, but I still have a problem. I'm in Windows ME and, unlike Windows 95/98, I can't seem to geet the "install new fonts" in the file menu. I follow instructions to turn on the "display all control panel options and all folder contents", but it doesn't change the file menu. Any suggestions?

        RE: Font Problem

Windows Me has the same font system as 9x. The usual reasons \Windows\Fonts goes whacky are:

The fonts folder has had the system attribute removed. From a DOS prompt change to the Windows directory and type

        attrib fonts +s

Fontext.dll is missing or corrupted. Start, Run, SFC, and replace the file.

Windows\Fonts\Desktop.ini is damaged. Restart in DOS mode, delete that file, and copy in a good Desktop.ini from C:\Recycled.

          RE: Font Problem

          I'm too am using/enduring ME.

ME has the infamous self-healing feature. In W98 you delete ariel, go to recycle and restore it and it remaps correctly. ME is actually easier. Delete ariel, say yes when you are prompted for permission and the ariel font file disappears and reappears, this time correctly mapped.

If you cannot delete it try changing the file's attribute under file properties.
