Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Speaking of new features, and lacking a proper A5v5 Phorum to post in, I would like to bring up what is probably the only negative reaction you will ever see to any of the new features.

I do not like the proposed Lasso select.

The standard Windows marquee select grabs only those items that are entirely captured. Consistency is not always bad.

I've just spent the morning tweaking some forms to follow design principles we learned last weekend. I have quite a few overlapping items and other items hidden behind larger items. They are good; they would make Steve happy . If the new select behavior is to catch everything partially selected, it will no longer be possible to catch the smaller items whether they are behind or in front.

          Do others have such reservations?

            Point well taken.

I think that this is one of those things that you may like when you actually try it out. Its hard to get a sense for how it will actually feel in practice from a written description of the feature.

In Autocad, if you lasso to the right, only entities entirely within the lasso are tagged. If you lasso to the left, any entity touched is tagged.

                Hi,

                Will A5V5 have graphics capabilities?

I like the way an excel spreadsheet is available and excel has excellent graphs, but sometimes it would be nice to place a graph on a form.

Will V5 accommodate a graph on a form?

Thanks, and keep up the good work and get this version released soon!

                  Hi Tom

I believe that with Active X controls available you will be able to add in a graphing package of your choice. So now all you have to do is find an Active X graphing package and you can make it part of A5v5 just like the calendar function.

                    Hi Sandy,

It won't take long to see that the partial lasoo effect will be a quicker and easier way of doing it. There will be many more times when all you have to do is grab the edge of the fields and move them, especially in tight situations.

In this case, quicker is better and easier or is it easier is quicker and better.

I don't have a partial marquee to experiment on, and I rather suspect that method will be better in general, but what happens when the horses change midriver? Do you get the little guy in the back by swiping the general area and then deselecting the big guys in front? My forms are built on the old methods - with parts sticking out here and there so the item can be missed.

OTOH, the whole form design is so nonstandard now, the difference might not matter.

Well......That can be a probplem. If I understand what you're saying, (I don't understand what you mean by 'old methods')it would be just as hard (usually harder)to select the field/s but surrounding them completely.

deselecting the big guys in front? >>

I just put the cursor near the field/s I want to select and drag the lasoo over the edges of the fields, then grab the highlighted field/s as is normally done, and off we go. Piece of cake.

                        Hope this helps.

I am also interested in incorporating multiple graphs in a report - does anyone know whether this will be available?

                            Robert,

I don't remember this being mentioned but as mentioned in this post or another, Active X controls addins will be available so it's possible you could add this feature through a third party if Excel is not adequate. Also, Selwyn posted a partial list of features so you might want to check that out.
