Add Date on Change Only

I have a database which has 2 date fields. One field adds a date when a new record is added to the form. Another field is has a ChangeDate field. As this is voter list,when I make a change on a record in the form I would like to have the change field only record that days date. I have to manually change the date for this execution. I am OK when I add a new voter as the event calculates that date in the Add field. The program now changes the add date if I write a code for changedate only in the form it also changes the add date which I want to preserve. Anyone know if my goal is possible.

Instead of the typical Save and Cancel buttons, you might put three buttons on your form. Save New, Change It, and Cancel.

Change It button would be disabled when entering a new record.
Save New would be disabled when editing an existing record.

Change It would stick the current system date in the Change Date field, without operator intervention.

Save New would stick the current system date in the Date entered field, without operator intervention.

Both the Change Date and Enter Date fields would be read only.

Is it okay to have DateChanged show the same as Date Added if the record is new? I just have

tbl = table.current()
tbl.dchanged=date()
end

on the form's CanSave event and dchanged always shows the last time the record was changed - even if it is the creation date.

I just started tracking when records are entered and changed. Got the ideas off this very forum.
Two fields, Entered and Changed

Field Rule of Entered is Data Entry Default = Date() set on entering the record, also if user does not touch it (I don't make it available - the data is only used via xbasic)

Field Rule of Changed is Calculated to Date()


very simple, no forms, browses or coding to mess with, just like Alpha intended!

another approach is with code in field rules
here is code in my table's CanSaveRecord event in field rules
it also tell's me the last time of day the file was accessed for security reasons
