Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    help set design

Have been using A4 and now A5 for a long time and just realized that though must have made several databases and tables but not a single set.

Need a small raw material balance system for which think a set would be better.

Made 2 tables: with following fields
    Goods in : date_in / lot_no_in / vendor / inventory_category / qty_in / unit_prc / ttl_amt_in

    Good out: date_out / lot_no_out / vendor / inventory_category / qty_out / unit_prc / ttl_amt_out

    (2nd / 3rd & 4th are character fields)

goods out are entered by lookup table of lot nos which only exists in goods in.
in short, goods which come in are given lot nos and when used from those lot nos. they are recorded accordingly.

    created a set:
goods set: goods out (primary) - goods in (child) -
linked lot_no_out to lot_no_in (one to many)

in the set form created global variable `lotoutvar`. (get value
    field: lot_no_out)

    The report filtered to: lot_no_out=lotoutvar

This all works fine and we get a balance and value of goods balance in hand for a particular lot no..

but here is the problem. We get a reports for records subject at least one record exists for any given lot_no in goods out.. BUT NOT FOR THOSE GOODS WHICH CAME IN AND LOT NO GIVEN BUT NOT A SINGLE PIECE USED FROM THAT LOT.
Hence the entire balance of goods in hand is wrong in such a case as the new goods do not appear in the report.

Please how do we correct this and have even fresh unused goods appear in the set report.. we have tried edit the set by making goods in as the parent table.

Besides reports based on lot nos.. we need to make reports in the set by:
    1. Total raw material of particular inventory category and balance In hand
    2. Total goods supplied by particular vendor and balance in hand
Do we have to make 3 separate sets with appropriate links or can do it in one only..

Any help would be sincerely appreciated

    RE: help set design

    Instead of
    Goods out===>goods in
try a set of Goods in===>goods out
In other words, reverse the set so you can always get a report on goods in.
