Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    When running scripts alpha5v4 crashes
    "problems with a2engine.dll"
locks program and when I re-enter its says I have two programs running and pushes me back to WINDOWS
I must reboot computer to start program again.
I have reinstall alpha, still happens
Is this a error needing a update from ALpha?

    RE: Problems with WIN ME

I don't know enough about your specific situation to determine if this is an Alpha Five related problem. However, I can tell you that I periodically watch a geek oriented TV show [TechTV] and they have received tons of complaints about Windows ME.

It appears as if Windows ME, which patched many older probems with Win 98, has in typical MS fashion, created a host of brand new problems.

Since the core operating system has not changed, it is identical to Win 98, my guess is the cause of your problem is Windows ME. I don't think you are having an Alpha Five related problem.

Having said that, let me also say that it wouldn't hurt to uninstall Alpha Five and then reinstall the application, along with the latest patch. This process takes less than 5 minutes and is well worth the effort.

      RE: Problems with WIN ME

I'm running ME on my own machine, which I use to support many remotes. And I have had no new problems with A5 - please feel free to post sample of problem scripts, and I will test them on my machine, and post results.

although on some machines I have always had problems with Alpha being sticky, not closing completely - like when the user trys to shut down, will get message saying Alpha is waiting, etc.

On others, running the same software, no problems. I'm not sure, but I think it may be something to do with video card.

Am hoping A5V5 will not have the same problems, and/or that the last build of V4 will fix it ----------- or I will figure out what causes it. Many others have made the same observation.

Just quick question: did you "upgrade" to Windows ME?

Unrelated to Alpha Five, I have talked with many who have had problems with the "upgrade" to Windows ME. Their only solution was to format and install clean. That seemed to take care of their major problems.

          RE: Problems with WIN ME

Search the Microsoft Knowledge base for upgrade problems with ME, there a a lot of known issues. Most as applies to real mode drivers(win Me does not support them). I have it on my home system and often bring work home with me, I can run alpha with no problems, actualy I have never had a sticky problem or realy any other problems on any machine that I use alpha on(all office boxes are Win2K on Netware 5.1 network). My scripts are not very complex though. We'll see as my app gets more develped if problems show up. Nonetheless, a wipe and load is the best way to change operating systems, consider it spring cleaning.

Yes - I used the upgrade - was the simplest upgrade of windows yet.
one complaint i have of ME is that i thought that it would do a better job of flushing memory as software opens and closes - but it doesn't - if anything, i lose more memory - not with alpha, though, in actual use - only in development, where i may open and close, change, etc, many many times - then i lose memory - occasionally have to reboot.

i am not yet recommending upgrades for my users - i have had it hang on me several times - in folder copy operations

Three weeks ago, I got a new Dell P-933 with WIN-ME pre-installed and use A5, Build 230 on a network. No problems what so ever, either in use mode or development mode.
