Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

On Capturing web pages WITH graphics - Eureka

Dr. Wayne's web site has loads of good programs illustrating
Alpha5's capabilities. I found it difficult to read these online
and wanted to download them so that I could read them offline
at my leisure. However, I could not easily do this and get the many
graphics included. Today, I found a great program (SBWCC21.zip) that
permits you to capture a website including the graphics in one fell
swoop. It is shareware and can be downloaded from
    www,.newsrobot.com/sbwcc.

Be sure to downlad the separate documentation there.

I captured ALL the programs on Peter's web site (www.learn alpha.com)
including all the graphics (over 450) in less than an hour. I think
    I got them all.

The program purports to be able to capture a single web page but I
    haven't figured that out yet.

As I understand it, the program captures the HTML portion of the
web site in a file and each of its graphics in a file. The
graphics files are automatically linked to the HTML file when
you read it, it appears as if the browser is looking at it.

I don't know if I have made this clear. Try it. I think you will
    like it.

Using IE 5, when I choose "File" and "Save As" it saves the text, with a folder names as the page holding all the graphics; assembled when loaded from My Documents. Is this the same, or did I mis-read something in your post?

I just discovered that can be done, too. Quite slick.
Leave it to Microsoft to surprise us yet again.

I don't believe the "old dog" is "over the hill". Appears to me that he is still climbing. Some of us are a bit behind him (not refering to age) and it's great that he threw out a hand to help us along!
Can't wait to try this out!

A very popular freeware program to extract webpages (and sites) is WebReaper at http://www.otway.com/webreaper

It recently converted to an advertising-based free version (and a licensed one without advertising).

It requires the presense of IE 4, but that's almost always on the system (Thank you Mr. Gates :-( ) even if you use Netscape.

Jim, it sounds like it is the same, though I don't know whether
your method would capture a whole web site as opposed to one page
at a time. Since I wanted to capture all, the one I used worked
              very well.

I don't use IE5 but might try it.
