Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Peachtree Data Export

I am currently in the process of developing a database which will take the exported Peachtree Ver7.0 data and use that data to create a number of reports manufacturing. Preachtree is VERY limited in the report area relitive to manufacturing.
    1. Has anyone else ever used Alpha to do this process?
    2. What are my limitations?

    Thanks

        RE: Peachtree Data Export

We do some handling of peachtree export files. Ours is from Peachtree for DOS, version 11. It outputs data in a Lotus WK1 file. Basically we set up routines to import the spreadsheet file into an alpha file and then append the raw data into a production file. If any of this will help I'll be glad to send a format.

          RE: Peachtree Data Export

You can quite easily import either to an Alpha table, though the Excel is probably more straightforward. The genie will lead you through the process. If you start and need help, just post your question.

From there you can design your reports.

            RE: Peachtree Data Export

I would like Alpha to creat a databas so I can create more of a seamless process. This way I can develope all of the required reports and create a report menu to select the desired report. This would be the easiest process for the manufacturing department.

              RE: Peachtree Data Export

To accomplish this you need to do the import once and create your reports on the resulting table. Then create a form containing buttons with scripts to:

empty the Alpha table holding the data
ask the user for the file to import
              import to a temporary table
append to your table which the reports are based on
empty or delete your temporary table
run the reports you previously defined

will be involved but doable. You can run any number of scripts from one button so you could have one button maybe called "Prepare Data" that did the empty, file name get, import, append, empty routines and then buttons for each of your reports.

                    RE: Peachtree Data Export

                    Hi Steve,
I have had some exposure to Peachtree. Get the latest version. Peachtree is wonderful in creating its own reports (so I have been told) But peachtree will allow you to create your own export/import operations. Easily at that. You will create a separte table called peachtreeTemp and Peachtree. Place a date field in it so you can filter your reports and fields you want to see. We import into alpha with the .asc file peachtree creates.

I am looking forward to the day when you can use DDE easily with Alpha Five. This will allow full access to both applications behind the scenes.

We have become accustomed to using macros to open and import data into peachtree. Let me know if you find any problems once you get the program Jack
