Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    maximum number of indexes

I have three store locations, using T-Lines to network into the corporate office, and about 30 users on a terminal server system. I have a sales order set
    Sales_Hd
    --- Sales_Itm
    --- Sales_Pymt
    --- Customer
I have 3 entry forms (each one filtered to show only that store location's open sales orders - loc="SLC".and. status="Open". From the header they fill in with date, store loc code, customer, etc. Then a browse that lets them enter the items, etc.

In the field rules on the sales item, I have the item number linked to a saved browse layout in inventory. When entering the item, if they don't type in the item # exactly, it pops on mis-match to this list. They can then select any column to search for the right product for in the browse (color, model, vendor, type, etc).

What I am finding is that with so many people using, they are getting "maximum number of indexes" a lot when searhing for items. So if the search a lot from here, eventually it locks them up.

I encounter the same problem on a sales posting form, that the A/R uses to "Invoice" the sales order. I have an F5 key on the menu that let's them search by Ticket#. It is a script in the code editor that does two functions 1) Quick Sort (which is pointed to the form and field to sort on and 2) Find by Key (which then pops up the find dialog box. After 10-12 uses of this F5 key, it starts giving them "maximum number of indexes". They have to close, go back in, etc.

How can I delete or get rid of the indexes that are obviously saving or remaining as they keep searching? Is there a way on the F5 key to undo indexes, then search?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. You are welcome to contact me directly if it would help.
    Thank you for your time,
    Lynda

    Take a look at

    "TBL".QUERY_DETACH_ALL()
    There can be only one.

Every time a search/query is run it is saved as a temporay index for the session in case it is needed again and so re-runs instead of creating a new one. Not sure what the max no of indexes is around 24 I think. You are obviously creating a lot of queries.

query_detach_all() is probably what you need.

Possibly attached to a button so the operators can clear things when they jam up, but may be better to add it to a script that is used frequently so as to stop the build up.

          Stan,

She's running multiple sessions using Terminal Server. If the queries are detached from the table in one session, would that detach "other" queries in other sessions? -- tom

This is what I was wondering as well - anyone have a similar experience with a terminal server and this issue.

It has been a while since I developed anything running on Terminal Server but I don't remember the behavior being any different than separate sessions on a lan. Each instance of the application opens tables, forms, etc in their own memory space.

Dropping the queries has to do with the local session not the master files, as I remember.
