Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report problems--could be me....

I am using this expression in a report:
    tablesum('walls_po',"Between(Po_date,{01/01/2005},{01/31/2005})",'Ar_notx')
    The expression builder is returning
    Result: 36107.29
    Type: N
BUT there are no pages in the layout. Could this expression not be working? There are two of these expressions for each month. The ones for later this year = 0. Will attach database if required.

The expression will evaluate in the builder for the current record, no matter how many records satisfy the report filter.

I still have your database. What report are you modifying?

I am working on Time_Period_2005. I have done quite a bit to the database since you have downloaded it. I have all of the reports working correctly except that one. If you need it as well as all of my other changes I will upload it again. I will be out for a short in the morning, but will be available around 11 cst. Thank you very much---you seem to be my knight in shining armor! :-)

        RE: Report problems--could be me....

        In the files I have.........

Several of your reports have what seem to me to be empty sub-reports. The report you mention has one of these with the filter "SCANNING("INVOICE")".

There is no "invoice" table in the database and the best Alpha can do is report that there are no pages in the layout, given this inconsistency. I also noticed that the filter for the report itself is

        (Po_date "= {01/01/2005}).and.(Po_date "={12/31/2005})

while this is not necessarily incorrect I think you wanted

        (Po_date "= {01/01/2005}).and.(Po_date "={12/31/2005})

If this doesn't clear up your porblem I guess I will need to see the new database.

A ssimilar expression which Alpha can evaluate more quickly, for large tables, is

        between(po_date,{01/01/2005},{12/31/2005})
        There can be only one.

I have made a lot of changes and the reports in the database that you have, have been corrected. I have attached the updated blank copy of the database.

                      RE: Report problems--could be me....

I just looked at your original zip and noticed you must be using some zip program under windows to zip up the whole directory. Doing it that way includes files we don't need, namely some spreadsheets which greatly increase the size of the zip but aren't needed. There are also files with .bna, .bnb, .bnc, etc extensions though they aren't very large.

Try using the Tools, Aip database on the menu while in control panel view.

Works fine for me using your original data. There were "no pages" in the files you sent because the tables were empty.
