Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Error 1

One of my reports is giving Error 1 when I try to open it. The report has worked the first two times I've used it but now I'm getting Error 1. (I have made no changes to DB)
    Help would be appreciated.

    John,

Have you tried compacting your database, closing A5, then reopening the DB to see if it works?

        John,

Whenever I received Error 1 in a report it was usually because there were no records that matched the filter/query I had setup. Remove your filter and see if you still get the error. If you do, then change the filter to something that you know there are records that match. These two tests should let you know if that is the reason for the error or not.

        Good luck

          Hi Cheryl

No Joy, I have noticed now that I can run the report for a new address but I'm unable to run the report for an address that I have previously ran the report for.
          Hope that makes sense.

            RE: Error 1

            John,

I am not sure if it makes sense or not since I am not certain what you mean when you say by address. If 'by address' you are using an address for a filter ... I would check your records. I had not changed the code in my filter and was unable to get the report using the same search criteria. I later found that the data in the record itself was modified.

You may also want to try the infamous pack your tables that the report is based on and compact the database. If you are certain that the query is accurate and the record in fact does exist with that exact query, then the pack and compact should resolve your issue.

            Good luck

I'm not actually running a filter, I've tried compacting DB , still no Joy.
Thanks for the ideas, if you think of any thing else please advise.

                John,

Why not attach your db to the message and give us instructions on how to duplicate your error. This will make it a lot easier to find a resolution for you.

Yes info from a memo field can go into a report. Just place the memo field on your report where you want the data to appear.

                  Thanks Cheryl & Louis

I have resolved the Error 1 problem, the problem was caused by Pilot Error ! I used the wrong table set.

Still not sure why I could run the report once for each of my clients before the problem occurred.

                  Thanks again for the help.
