Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Object does not exist error

    On my Menu, I have button8 which activates the "on push" event which opens the form DCS Stmt. Until recently it worked properly, but now gives me an error "The Object ':DCS_Stmt does not exist. I would like info to correct this problem. Thank you.

    Dwain,

    We might need more information in order to be able to assist you better with a possible resolution. With the information you provided the only thing that catches my eye is that you mention 'form DCS Stmt' and the error says DCS_Stmt ... do you have a space in the form name or anywhere in your code?

    If this is not your issue perhaps you can give us the OnPush event code that you are using and/or a copy of the db with steps to duplicate the error and we may be able to find a resolution for you.

    Thanks
    Cheryl

      RE: Object does not exist error

      If, prior to clicking the button, you have already opened the form, the program will try to open a second instance of the form, which will be DCS Stmt0 (note the zero on the end). Since you don't have a form with this name, you'll get the error.

      By the way, as Cheryl mentioned, you should be aware of any spaces in your names. It is generally preferable to NEVER use spaces in names for forms, scripts, indexes, field names, etc. The spaces can sometimes muck things up.

        I did have DCS Stmt as a form so I renamed it DCS_Stmt and it still gives the same result. There is a method of checkding the Object name, but I've forgotten how I did that. Can you refresh my memory?

          RE: Object does not exist error

          For example, the following command tests if a form called Customers is already open. If not, it opens the form. If it is open, it gives focus to the form.

          if (is_object(":customers")) then
          'form is open
          :customers.show() 'show the form
          :customers.activate() 'give focus to the form
          :customers.restore() 'restore window size in case
          'user minimized window
          else
          :form.view("customers") 'open the form
          end if

          or

          The following script tests to see if a form called "customer" has been loaded. If not, it loads the form.

          p = obj(":customer")

          if (.not. is_object(p)) then

          :form.view("customer")

          end if
          There can be only one.

            The table is NOT open prior to using my Menu. Using your first instance script it opens it without error, but my button8 event still gets the error. I need more help.

              I am zipping my Database to you. Hope you can find and correct the problem.
              It should open up to my Menu, then click on View Chgs/Payts. The error will appear.

                    RE: Object does not exist error

                    Your action scripting sequence tries to maximize the DCS_Stmt form before it is opened. That's what is throwing the error.
