Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Remove Filter ?

Since this is still also unresolved lets start another thread on this.

I still cannot clear a filter or query programmatically with topparent.show_all() or the even stranger tapparent.command("SHOW_ALL") methods.

I'm generating a forms with an embedded browse to show the contents of a query that is generated with an Xdialog script and I've tried in the actual form with the embedded browse to remove the filter as well as the xdialog script that opens the form with the embedded browse with the above mentioned code methods and it doesn't release the query on the table. I know this because if I open a default browse on the table the query is still there and the little siphon is at the bottom left of the form.

HOWEVER, if I run or open the form with the embedded browse directly from the control panel, yes do not get me going on this, then both the above methods work when I close the form.

Can someone explain, what I'm doing wrong here?

If I can get the filter issue and the control panel hidding issue resolved then this ap is ready to go!

I remember the earlier thread. I think it's going to be necessary for you to post a working model of your database, with step by step instructions on how to "drive it" to the problem. -- t

      RE: Remove Filter ?

      Hello Tom

Thanks I remember you also trying to help with this.

As I am merely an employee I will discuss this possibility with the boss, as we are also looking at options for direct help from alpha.

I don't think the boss wants to publicly open our project or guts open if you know what I mean, (but I'll make that suggestion to him), I as the programmer don't really care. So in the meantime if you have any bright ideas that pop into your head on this problem let me know.

You can make a copy of your db, and zap all the data and then post it. To zap the data you must select each table from the controlpanel and select from the menu "utilities/empty the table". Don't do this on your original data - you won't be able to unzap it. Back up, back up...

If the concern is privacy of the data I fully respect that. This is why I described it as a "working model" of your real database. Peter's suggestions are good ones. I'd supplement it by suggesting further that after you zap the tables in your "model" you should enter a few records using dummy information, so we'll both have something to work with.

            RE: Remove Filter ?

Some types of queries set the base filter of the form and cannot be "closed" with the Show All button.

See .QUERY_RUN() in the help file.

There are other query methods (possible just 'containers' that use these methods) which do the same thing but I don't recall how each one acts.

To get the result you want, it will probably be necessary to change your query method.

You can reset the base filter and order expressions for a form or browse with .BASEQUERYRUN().
