Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Button OnPush

    Hello Everyone,

    I have the following code on a button OnPush event in a form.

    topparent.FindBy_DefinedKey("Find Record","Search for:",2,"ALLTRIM(Port_Code) + ALLTRIM(Dock_Receipt_No)",.t.,"$a5_find_by_key")

    It works fine.

    What I can't seem to get to work correcly is after the search, to show all records again with
    "topparent.show_all()".

    What I would like to do, is when the dialog box is closed, have all records show again.

    What would be the correct way to do this? It is a single stage button.

    Thanks Ed

    Ed,

    To which dialog box are you referring?

      RE: Button OnPush

      Hi Ken,

      The code on the button is actually action scripting, so the search dialog box comes up when the button is pushed.
      After the search is done, and the dialog box is closed, at this point, I would like to have all records showing. I can click show all records with the mouse on the tool bar, but would like to have it done each time a search is finished, and the dialog box is closed.

      I tried to place the code, to show all records, on the can depart and depart events of the button, but each time it always went to the last record, instead of staying at the record that was found, and then showing all records. So I am not sure exactly how to acomplish this.

        Ed,

        I'm not familiar with the action script you're using but it doesn't look as though it would run a query in the first place. A find by key does not filter the records, it just finds a record. Why are you needing to "show all" ? Where is the query being set?

        Maybe it's time to show us the entire script, or even better, post a working model of the database here so we can see it.

          RE: Button OnPush

          To close the dialogue box, I am assuming you have a button labeled "cancel" or "close". To that button add the show_all() script, Bingo!

            RE: Button OnPush

            Hello All,

            Sorry I have not replied more quickly.......probably like a lot of others, I do this in between my regular work at work.

            Please find attached a screen shot of this particular form, with the search button pressed.

            On that button, I used action scripting with Find/Locate|Find by Key Dialog(custom) with the following action scripting:

            'Display custom Find_by_Key dialog in current form.
            topparent.FindBy_DefinedKey("Find Dock Receipt Number","Search for:",2,"ALLTRIM(Port_Code) + ALLTRIM(Dock_Receipt_No)",.t.,"$a5_find_by_key")

            As soon as the Search button in the form is pressed, up on the tool bar, the Show All Button is activated, which is fine.

            If you look at the 2 fields just above the search button, where data "MID" and "1" are, they are both char fields.

            So the index on the form is: "alltrim(Port_Code)+padl(alltrim(Dock_Receipt_No),5,'0')". Which are the two fields above.

            In Alpha settings, it is set to close the dialog box after a find.

            So what I am trying to accomplish at this point, it just show all records again upon completion of the find. Because the field with the "1" in it, is a char field, and I seem to loose the "padl(alltrim(Dock_Receipt_No),5,'0')" , to sort as needed.

            So far I have not been able to do that simple task.

            If I attach to the Search button "topparent.show_all()", it always goes to the last record within the form filter.

            I know it has to be something simple, but can not figure it out. No matter what event I put show_all, it does not work correctly.

            I even went so far as to make a separate button(that you can see on the form with (A underlined), and try and use send keys to clear the find.

            So ???

            Thanks Ed

              RE: Button OnPush

              I meant to add:

              If I press the button "Show all", in the custom tool bar everything is fine. If I press the button "A underscore", in the form everything is fine(with "topparent.show_all()"
              on the button).

              Right now I have :"topparent.show_all()" on the previous and next record buttons, so that when a user goes to previous or next record, it clears the find.

              So ??? It has to be simple..........Ed

                RE: Button OnPush

                Am I clear in that you want the records to stay in order by

                "alltrim(Port_Code)+padl(alltrim(Dock_Receipt_No),5,'0')"
                after the find, but you want all records visible?

                The show_all() is erasing the effect of the find by key to the extent of record ordering, i.e. it resets the order to record number order.

                    RE: Button OnPush

                    But if I Press any button to show all records, anywhere but the button that I have the search on, they go back to the order that I want every time.

                    That is why I am confused.

                        RE: Button OnPush

                        If you will create an index for the table (call it 'portdock') and place the following code on the onpush event of your button

                        dim tbl as P
                        dim indx_1 as P
                        dim indx_prv as P
                        tbl = table.current()
                        indx_prv = tbl.index_primary_get()
                        indx_1 = tbl.index_primary_put("portdock")
                        tbl.fetch_find(ui_get_text("Lookup","Find Dock Receipt Number","MID00001"))
                        parentform.resynch()
                        tbl.index_primary_put(indx_prv)
                        end

                        I think you'll be please with the results.

                            Just need to filter it by "(Job_number = Var-"Job )", where Job_number is a field in the same table.
