string conversion ??

I'm using a mult-select list box to pick cities and I'm ending up with I think a tab delimitered list as it displays in a text box similar to this...

Boston|New York|Toronto....etc as I continue to select cities..therefore string is of unknown length.

I wish to convert this into a string replacing the | (tab?)
character something like this

city='Boston'.or.city='New York'.or.city='Toronto'.....

I'm not sure which function to use or how to interpret the "|" tab in the string.

p.s. I need xbasic function like strtran or strwordtran, I'm not sure.

Hello Stan

I found out that the delimiter on the list box selections is a cr and line feed by playing with the len function,(everytime I clicked a city in the list box it length was 2 characters longer than I could see) so now I am making headway with this line...



City_str=strtran(vCities,chr(13)+chr(10),".or.City=")

I like your idea to l trim the trailing .or.City= for the end of the string.

So, I think I'm ok now with this string manipulation thing.
