Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    How do you change object focus?

    Warning a newb at work Oct 19, 2004 9:38 am

    Hello all, I have 2 code scripts, one is the main or calling script and the other is the called script. I have coded the main calling script to run the second script when a user clicks a text/input box field. Like this...

    if a_dlg_button = "txtCity_setfocus" then
    a_dlg_button=""
    script_play_local("CodeCityQry")
    '
    'I need something here to change the focus away from
    'txtCity object to the "&Exit" button
    '
    'this next line doesn't work yet, I'll ask about this
    'Global collection problem later!
    '
    ' txtCity.object=QueryCollection.get("CT")
    ' a_dlg_button=""
    end if

    The second script fires ok and when it closes and returns
    to the main script, IT AUTOMATICALLY FIRES THE SECOND SCRIPT AGAIN, in a mad loop as txtCity again receives focus!!!!!!!!

    What I need to do in the above If statement is to give focus to a button object or anything for that matter to stop this run time looping.

    if the button I'm, trying to give focus to is "&Exit" what is the code to give this button focus?

    The main calling program is intended to be a series of text/input boxes that are clicked to generate a new dialog to facilitate the input of these text boxes.(You will not be allowed to modify the contents of the text boxes directly from the main calling code, but only through the called code/script which is suppose to update the text/input boxes contents, but I digress) so giving focus back to another text box is no solution, focus has to go to an inanimate object or a button, anything but the same or different text box.

    Thanks for any suggestions on this matter in advance.

    RE: How do you change object focus?

    the code to give focus to any object on a form is

    "object_name_of_object_on_the_form_without_the_quotes".activate()

    The object name of buttons whose name has not been explicitly set usually follow the pattern "button1", "Button2", etc. Examine the object's properties to determine its name.
    There can be only one.

      RE: How do you change object focus?

      Hello Stan

      How do you view a buttons properties when you are coding everything in my question in xDialog?

      Anyhow my button is defined as this,

      "15&Exit!ok_exit" I assume the name of the button is ok_exit end of the next line of code....you will see it

      "*&Clear Screen?.not.(x="")"{sp=10}"&Save Query?.not.(x="")"{sp=10}"&Browse?.not.(x="")"{sp=10}{initial_focus}"15&Exit!ok_exit"
      %dlg%,""%code%
      trace.WriteLn(a_dlg_button)
      if a_dlg_button = "txtCity_setfocus" then
      ' a_dlg_button=""
      script_play_local("CodeCityQry")
      txtCity.object=QueryCollection.get("CT")
      ok_exit.active()
      '
      '
      'error message is "Arguement is incorrect data type"
      '
      '
      end if

      so if ok_exit.active() doesn't work then what would work?

        RE: How do you change object focus?

        My comments were pertaining to an object on a form, not in an xdialog box, mistaken presumption. Also the command I gave you was .activate(), not .active().

        I don't dop much xdialog so I can't help you there.
