Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Rich Text memo fields

I have some of these on forms but want to change how they act.

1.is it possible to have the copy "crtl" + "C" key combination and the "Shift" + "Insert" to paste it? I find having to open the memo and click on the paste icon a real pain.

2.how do I STOP the small window from popping up when I click in the RTF memo. It usually appears right in the place where I want to type.

3.the text is font 8. How or where do I change it to ARIAL 11?

    Thanks.

    1. Object Events

Scroll down to OnKey there is some helpful information there.

Also, if you do a search on this board for trapping keystrokes you will find a lot more helpful information.

    trapping keystrokes

    2. I have no idea, somebody else will have to assist with this one :)

    3. Have you tried to right click on the specific field and select properties? There should be a font tab available there for you to change your font type and size.

Thanks will look at #1 closer.

As for #3 there is NO font tab, just setup, border, dimensions & Help. So the right click does not work on a RTF memo.

Can you attach a sample zip file for us to look at for #3?

          RE: Rich Text memo fields

Difficult. All I need to know is how does one change the default FONT on a RTF memo.

When I click the memo field, the small RTF toolbar pops up, it has font, a style (1 to 8) & font size. What good is it? It shows as Tahoma 10. If I change it to Arial 20, I still get a 10 font in the memo field.

I thought I had it when I went to View -" Settings -" System Fonts. I found there "RTF Memo fields" and it said Arial 11. Hmmmmmmmm. How come it says Tahoma 10 when I go to the actual Rich Text field?

Then I thought it mite have something to do with "Styles" on the same menu. But once again foiled. Buttons for Forms, Labels, Reports......but NO where do I see where I can CHANGE the RFT default font. Cards say Arila 8 what does that mean.

          I am STUMPED, Big Time.

Viz "Crtl" + "C" for copying text & "Shft" + "Insert" were BOTH Windows standards. I have used that in many divergent Window applications.

            D.Chiasson -

Here are a couple of ideas that may point you toward a solution.

Have you played with Selwyn's ruler manipulation? You might give it or a variant a try.

            http://msgboard.alphasoftware.com/alphaphorum/read.php3?sortby=lastreply&direction=desc&num=11&id=29319&thread=29309

Another idea I use in a rich text memo app is to use formatted rich text memo as a recurrent template. In this case the user can choose from a "format listing" and use the chosen template as a starting point for the new memo.

                RE: Rich Text memo fields

I still have not found how to change the RTF default font size.

I did do as Cheryl suggests changing Settings-"System Fonts-"RTF Memo Fields to "Arial, 10". But when I enter the MEMO field on a form, I end up with "Tahoma, 8" & the RTF Toolbar popup says this is "Style 1". There are MANY styles listed but all with this same Tahoma, 8 format. How do I set the defaults and others styles?

It looks like I need to set Style 1 to Arial, 10. How do I do this and how do I change a few of the other styles on the RTF Toolbar popup?

                Thanks.

                  RE: Rich Text memo fields

Did you check the link given by John O.? In it is a copy of Selwyn's explanation of how to set the default font for an RTF field. Sorry, there is no built-in setting for changing it. Also, even Selwyn's method leaves a blank space at the beginning of the field that the user should remove.

                    RE: Rich Text memo fields

I saw that but had incorrectly assumed there might have been a change to Alpha5 in the last couple years that would allow a user to easily define the styles that popup in the RFT window.

How is the Settings-"System Fonts-"RTF Memo fields used?

The suggestion offered is not of the painless variety.

                    Thanks again.
