Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Labels - for genie - Dymo Labels

The genie does not give any defaults for the small label makers such as Dymo.

Before I design a label by hand are there any available definitions.

    Thanks

RE: Labels - for genie - Dymo Labels

I use a Dymo LabelWriter and found the definitions I needed for various size labels using a report format. I always use a report (with a detail section only) rather than a label. It works very well.

I have tried this (and every other method, including getting a return call from Alpha 5 saying they don't support the Dymo)

      Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I get the Dymo printer selection, get the label picked and then it falls apart. Do I print landscape? Why if I've choses a page size does the report creator show an 8X11 sheet.

      You get the picture

        Robert,

A beginning point might be to learn how to print labels to the Dymo using your favorite word processor. I should think the layout specs that work there will work in a custom report layout, too.

I have no problem using a word processor. In fact created merge labels in both Word and Word Perfect that access the database and print on the Dymo

It is time consuming to move back and forth.

I should be able to print the label in Alpha 5. Can get it to print in the report section but can't get landscape printing. Alpha 5 will not print the longway on the label.

I actulally am losing patience with the program. This should be a feature that is supported.

            Robert,

Here's a document showing some screen shots that I took to show you my label layout (as a report, not a label) and the report properties that I use. The landscape printing on the Dymo LabelWriter 330 works just fine for me. Again, I was not able to use the label format to do this. The report only has a detail section and works perfectly fine for printing labels. I hope this helps you some.

I've tried. Got your picture. Duplicated it as a report. Can't get the image to print landscape , that is won't print the long way on the label.

Can't even get it to get on the label.

Is there any way to get the company to provide defaults. This has been too much time.

                  Robert,

I am sorry you are having so much trouble. I am at a loss as to why you can't print a report to your Dymo Label printer in landscape mode. If you could zip up your database and report and upload it here, I would be glad to take a look at it and see if I see any thing that might cause it to not print correctly.

                  Sincerely,
                  Robin

Sorry I don't know how to send screen pictures, but I did succeed in creating a label and printing it.

Did it as a label - not report.

Defaulted Printer to Dymo and the particular label
                    Design Label
Custom size - used information from the trim screens that I was getting when trying to print
Created label - will not give me a proper preview (always shows in portraight even when stated to be in landscape.)
Printed (didn't work) so I went to print properties and saw that printer was defaulting to custom paper and portrait
                    Changes settings - voila
However, would not save print settings (tried every route)
Saved label with a new name. In label properties set print stuff including label and print orientation.
                    Saved - worked

                    Whew!!
