Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Editing a Browse Problem

Ok, I looked around and I couldn't find the answer readily available, so I thought I would avail myself of some help. My problem is that I have an embedded browse that brings up a list of items for a search that has just been performed. Very easy, no problems there. The problem is that when I select of the rows in the Browse and then click on my button I creted to do an Update, it goes to the last row in the table, not the row I highlighted in the browse. If someone could point me in the right direction, I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you!

    Jason,

What is the functionality behind your update button?

      RE: Editing a Browse Problem

Well, now that you mention it, I went back and checked and what's there is only a command to open a new form with a single record in a browse. I remember now that when I did it origianlly (A while back) all the searches ended up with just one record and it opened it based on that search. No problem. Now my boss wants it done where you can view close matches and select and then open the update based on the highlighted selection. I know this is verbose and I apologize. Sorry. I'm still fairly new at this database programming. I looked around some more and I still cannot figure out if there is a way to open a new form and have it fill the blanks with the highlighted record in the embedded browse, which is essentially what I'm trying to do. I hope this helps, or if not then at least confuses you more :-).

        Jason,

If you could post a copy of your database, it would make it much easier to help out.

        Can you do this?

          Hello Jason,

I can almost guarantee there is a way to do what you are trying to accomplish but your being way to vague.

You obviously have a browse is this on a form??

Are you trying to open another form with only the highlighted record or something else. Is the form your tring to open belong to the same set/table???

If your trying to open a form with only the highlighted record showing, the form based on the same set/table. You might want to consider using the double click event. this would be very easy to accomplish with action scripting.

Let me know exactly what you are trying to accomplish.

            RE: Editing a Browse Problem

I apologize for being vague. What I have is a form that has an embedded browse. I should mention that the browse only displays a few fields in the record for sorting purposes, not the whole record. It is too big to fit on one or even two screen widths. So once you have found the right record, you highlight the record in the browse and press a button labeled update. I would then like to have another form open that is based on the table the browse is based on so that the entire record can be edited, not just the parts that are displayed in the browse. Once this is done, save the record and exit back to the form with the browse. I hope this is clearer. Again, I apologixze, but this is still new to me and I'm cleaning up the last guy's mess, and trying to stay ahead of the game. Thanks for the help so far.

              Hi Jason,

No need to apologize, You can do this very easily with action scripting.

              1. Right click on the update button ,events , on push

              2. Select create with action scripting

              3.Add new action button

              4. go down to where you see Form/browes on the dialog (left side)

5.on the right side select open form or browse layout press ok.

              6. a dialog will pop up chose the form you will be doing your "update" on press next

              7. Now as lond as the form is based on the same table one of the options will be current record only. this is what you want.

              Your Done easy as pie.

If you have any more questions just ask
