Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Report fine tuning help needed

    Hello,

    More fine tuning assistance needed:

    1) Open the f_prt_inv form found on the Forms tab.
    2) click on the Company Search button listed under Print Invoices
    3) In the Last Company dialog prompt type: allstate l ... this will fill the box with: allstate leasing
    4) After typing allstate l press the enter key ... this accepts the allstate leasing and activates the OK button
    5) This opens the select print method dialog box with the preview option as default
    6) Click enter as the OK button now has focus and preview is exactly what we want to do
    7) The first page that opens is a blank page.
    8) If you use the PgDn key you can scroll through the remainder of the invoices for Allstate Leasing which works correctly.
    9) Press the End key and you are correctly brought to the last invoice for Allstate Leasing.
    10) Pressing ctrl+p correctly opens the printer dialog box.

    Here is my problem:

    A) How do I get the first page that appears blank, not to be there? Not sure what is causing it?

You will find that if you do a search on anything here, using any of my buttons or keystroke shortcuts, that all of them will return a blank page for the first record.

    Second question:

    B) I decide that after previewing the invoices I do NOT want to actually print them. How do I close the preview window and return to the Main Print Invoices Menu? I need to do this using keystrokes ONLY.

Since my database is 6MB in size I am unable to attach it to this post so I have uploaded it to my site. You can download it from:

    Target_Auto

Please note that if you downloaded this file from my prior Fine Tuning post, it has not changed so you do not need to re-download it :)

    Thanks
    Cheryl

RE: Report fine tuning help needed

In A) above, I have the same issue on the f_prt_inv form ... the blank page occurs before each instance of a new invoice when using the date range search :) I am going to assume the resolution for both will be the same.

RE: Report fine tuning help needed

I am finding many errors as I go through my application and fixing them as I go along ... due to filename changes, lookup changes, field changes, form changes, code changes, etc

None of the errors should have any effect on the issue posted in my original message. I am only posting this in case somebody decides to nose around the app and find other issues. (I know I would be nozy about it, LOL)

I will post/upload the final application once fine tuned and completed (well phase I prior to my meeting tomorrow anyway)
