Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    GOTO Window pop up

Every time I try to advance to the next record, a GOTO box pops up. I have tried to find where I accidently could have activated it, but I have hit a wall. How can I stop this from popping up every time I enter a field?

Can you zip your files and attach them here so somebody can look around and try to find it for you?

      RE: GOTO Window pop up

After compacting the development database, and testing to verify the problem still exists, here's a useful beginning point.

      1) Open the 'default form' for the same table or set your current form is based upon.

      2) if the default form misbehaves that's a good indicator the trouble lies in field rules for the table;

      3) if the default behaves correctly that's a good indicator the rules are ok, and the trouble lies in the custom form itself.

It appears to be in the custom form. Does that mean I have to start over?

          Hi Lori,

Starting over sounds sooooooooo evil. Go to your custom form in design mode ... from the toolbar menu select form events and review any code that you may have in there. If nothing then you can try to view the events on the various objects within your custom form. I would try this before starting over from scratch. If you cannot find anything and have to create your form over, may I suggest that you test it immediately after creating the form and before you begin any of the customization of it. I would do minimal changes and test in between to ensure you do not run into the same difficulty.

I think I have it narrowed, but I am not sure. When I click into the Presenter's name, I get a little arrow. It is only in that field. I should not have an arrow, but I'll be dipped if I can get rid of it. I deleted the field and readded it. It still has the arrow.

            Any new suggestions? Ugh!

              RE: GOTO Window pop up

hmmm, this arrow usually indicates a drop down list of some kind, whether controlled via field rules or in the form itself. Since you say that you deleted the field and put a new one there, that leads me to look at the field rules ... however, you stated that the default form does NOT do this? So that takes me back to the form.

Any chance you can zip your files so we can take a look with you?

Just reply to this message and just above the send message button check the attach file box, then send message, this will bring up a browse button for you to locate your zip file and upload it.

                          Hi Lori,

When I go to your Customer form, select form, events, there is a navigator event ... if I delete this action the pop up goto goes away.

Yaayyyy! You are the BOMB! That was seriously driving me nuts. I never thought to look there.

One other question, is this set up so that any changes made will save, or will they over write eachother? I need to have the function of entering payments, dates, and comments and they remain kept in a history for reports and such.

I like I said, I am VERY new to Alpha.

Thanks for the help on the box!
