Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Paste image from clipboard

I'm working on capturing a photo image from a webcam directly into my A5 app. I've modified a Visual Basic version 6 source code program I found online to capture the photo and copy it to the clipboard. It works very well through the action script of running a non-Alpha program via a button click I've called "Capture Photo". I've compiled the VB6 program into an executable that can also be deployed as a setup / install. The user clicks on the Capture Photo button, the VB program launches, the user clicks on the button in the VB window to capture the photo and the photo is copied directly to the clipboard. Here's where I'm struggling with my A5 app. I can manually right-click in the image field on the form and select "paste image from clipboard" and then click on another button I've made that refreshes the image field object, and the desired results of the photo being seen in the image field object on the A5 form is accomplished. There must be a way to automate behind the scenes the two manual steps I'm having to do. I've searched the documentation with no success locating any info on an image field right-click menu item selection and I've experimented with the clipboard functions in XBasic with no success. If someone can figure out a way to access the right-click options to do a paste image from clipboard into the image field, I think I'll have this part nailed since the refresh object is an action script option. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions about this, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Give focus to the image field and then use:

    sys_send_keys("{Ctrl-V}")

      RE: Paste image from clipboard

      Elke,

Having purchased Alpha 5 this week, needless to say, I'm deep in the learning curve. I didn't mention before that the form is in Enter mode as I'm entering a new record when I'm capturing the photo. I gained focus on the object through the action script of Activating the image object, coded In-line XBasic with the code you provided, then added another action script of object refresh. It didn't work. I appreciate your response and am willing to try any other thoughts / ideas. I've been trying to figure this out for a few days and have run out of ideas on this end. Thanks and blessings.

        What about clipboard_get_date()?

The chm help files lists a slew of items when you type "clipboard" into the search area.

        Hope this helps.

          Hi Steve,

I could not find the code I asked you a few days ago. Could you provide the source of these VB code. Maybe it is possible to translate it into Xbasic. Then there is no need for an extra VB exe with installer. Simple all in one.

            Marcel,

Here's the direct link to download the VB source code I modified. I'm only using the still picture functionality.

Sorry Steve. I use the paste function all the time but did not realize it would not work with an image file... If there is anyway you could name the file relative to a field it would be much easier to use image file reference instead and then your ftp file wouldn't get so large.

Thanks Elke for your suggestion. Jerry Brightbill had the same suggestion in another thread and provided the XBasic code that works. I will probably end up going that route to get it to work. At this point, it's kind of a principle thing that if I can manually do something, why can't I code it to do the work? Anyway, I'm working on the VB program to save the captured image in JPEG format and set up the sequential file naming convention to reference the last file name in the save-to folder as the current photo taken. Thanks again for your willingness to help.
