Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Variable append error

I have 5 tables each representing a different area code of the National Do not Call Registry. Each table has the same three character fields Area Phone & Phone_Number. I have identical operations for each of these to Append the Pnone_Number field to the same table - Do_Not_Call_List this table has only one character field : Phone_Number. With one of the append operations I get this error: Script:TEMPLATE line:15
    a_tbl.append()
Variable append.m.exp1 expresion - Field is not recognized.

Any ideas where is comes from ?

    RE: Variable append error

    Gary,

The reason nobody is answering is that you do not give enough information to support speculation, much less diagnosis. So you should consider giving more information or (after blanking or otherwise obscuring sensitive data)posting your application to this board.

I can't help observing that holding your data in 5 different identically-structured tables is not the way most of us would approach the task of storing such information as you could easily hold all data in one table and run queries based on area code.

      RE: Variable append error

Bill Thanks for reply I thought since I said it was an append operation and what the error message was that it may be a common error other had received. Attached are the zip files with the tables envolved. Warning : one table has 2 million records with just one field. The append from DNC_443 to Do_Not_Call_List is where I get the error.

As to why 5 identical tables, I need to do a monthly download of 5 separate text files ( 5 area codes ) I then import them, do an update and append to one master table. I suppose I could import them all to the same table but since I empty each source table when finished, I felt more comfortable doing it this way.

          RE: Variable append error

Your error is NOT on the table.append(). That is just the operation that is seeing te filter and parameters that you created.

If this is an action script, check the underlying XBasic and look at the expression for append.m.exp1. Something in there is not evaluating properly.

Without seeing your code, that is the best I can offer.

No not an action script- just a saved operation created from the append gennie Looks like the zipped fiele was too large so attachment did not work I will make file smaller and try attaching on next message

                RE: Variable append error

in the table name for this append there is a space

                dnc_ 443 - I exaggerated it here.

Spaces are sometimes possible, never advisable. The append runs if the tablename is changed and the operation pointed to the newly named table.
                There can be only one.

                    RE: Variable append error

the method a_tbl.append() requires a lot of dot variables declared. Are you declaring those variables??

If this is a saved append operation then you should use the Operation Type.Run() method instead of the a_tbl.append()
