Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    ISAM Issue Converting ACCESS

Getting an error "Can't find ISAM" when using ODBC Genie to convert Access to A5. Anyone having this problem?

    RE: ISAM Issue Converting ACCESS

    Hi Roger,

I just downloaded the ODBC genie and using the alphasports access file I was successfully able to import all 8 tables without any errors. What are the exact steps that you are taking and when does the error actually occur? I am guessing that the issue is directly related to the mdb file that you are attempting to import. Perhaps you can zip it and attach here together with the exact steps for us to attempt to duplicate your problem so that we can aid in finding you a resolution.

        RE: ISAM Issue Converting ACCESS

        Hi Roger,

Since I did not know what ISAM was I did an online search and found:

The Indexed Sequential Access Method, or ISAM , is a technique for organizing data and efficiently retrieving it. It is designed for efficient operation in two modes: random access and sequential access; hence the name Indexed Sequential Access Method.

I do not know if this is something that would be on the side of the import genie or something within your database itself that perhaps the import genie is looking for. Can you import the alphasports mdb file? I have attached it here for you to see if you get an error with this file. If not then that still leaves me to think it is specific to your access file.

If you do get the error using the attached file, then perhaps you can try to re-download and re-install the odbc import genie. In your steps you mentioned: IRM and CRF Log, are those the filenames of your access database and the table that you are trying to import? When I imported the alphasports I was not given the option of Named CRF Log History so I am not sure where you are.

        Thanks
        Cheryl

          RE: ISAM Issue Converting ACCESS

          Hi Roger,

OK, I posted prematurely ... I just downloaded your database and understand your references now :)

I followed your steps exactly and successfully imported your database without receiving any errors at all. The table has 68 records.

I would try going with my suggestion of re-downloading the import genie. You may also want to check for the build that you are using and perhaps upgrade that if it is not the recent one.

            Hi,

How do I redownload the Genie? I can't find it under file downloads, and since I have already downloaded it on my computer - today, it doesn't allow me to download it again.

              Hi Rog,

Unfortunately I no longer have the download site url, but I do have the file itself so I have uploaded it to my site in zip format for your convenience. You can download it from:

              http://www.pagecrazy.com/a5v5/a5_odbc_import_genie.zip

Hopefully this will resolve your issues.

                Hi,

I downloaded your zip file and installed it. I received the same exact ISAM error on the same exact line number.

I guess I'll keep playing and see if I can "stumble" across whatever I'm doing wrong.

Thanks for all of your help. If you have any other ideas, I'm certainly willing to listen :)

Bummer :( I am at a loss of other ideas at this moment, maybe somebody else has some thoughts ... I have attached my current version and build, I am assuming that you are using the same thing. Also, I tested this on my laptop which is using XP Home O/S. Maybe there are some settings elsewhere within Alpha that is causing the difficulty. The online page that I found about ISAM mentioned libraries, maybe this will help others to assist you further.

Is there a problem with saving the data as .dbf tables from Access?

I don't see a way to create a .dbf. Do you know how to do that?

                      Thanks,

In Access go to Export, save file type as: .dbf
