Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

repair problem with new install ?

    Hi
My alpha 5 will not save reports as any kind of a file.
Trying to solve this problem I uninstalled, then reinstalled, then ran repair problems, then tried to unistall again. This time uninstall file is unusable.

So because I still have report saving problem I want to go into registry erase any file named alpha, then do a new install. Which files have the information about activation key ? so that I do not erase them?

    Thank you
    Joe

    Joe,

Off hand, I don't know but I think this or a similar question has been asked before. Search for 'selwyn and registry' (w/o the ')

Your activation key is stored in a file called activation.key in your A5V5 program folder. All of the Alpha-specific information in the registry can be found in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Alpha Software\Alpha Five 5.0

        Hi
Ok deleted all alpha from registry. deleted alpha from files.
        Only saved activation file.
        installed alpha 5 build 1400.
Same problem will not save reports as pdf or any other type.
will make a folder call archive but it is empty.

I guess I could buy a good screen snap shot saver and capture the reports as a jpg file.

Any ideas about what is wrong with the alpha 5 installation???

        Thank You Joe

          Ok all fixed
Again went into windows registry and delete everything alpah five execpt user which contains license number

used windows explorer and delted all files under alpha5 except activation key file

Finally and I think this is the most important opened printers and deleted printers for pdf, html, rtf, txt.

          ran alpha 5 install

now save as for report files works great.

ran latest update patch and I am all set.

The problem was those print drivers which do the conversion of the report files some how where not correct. During one of my reinstalls I had double sets of those drivers. That was when I pin pointed the possible problem.

          Thanks
          Joe

            Hi Joe,
If it's any consolation you are not the first person to have problems with those damned Amyuni printing drivers. A year or so ago a problem with the A5-supplied PDF driver litterly drove me up the wall. My A5 application depended on the PDF driver. I have now installed a third party product so I can thumb my nose at the Amyuni one.

For the record I use the pdf driver on many machines with no problem whatsoever. So beware premature conclusions.
