Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    ControlPanel.show() not working

    Hi,

    I'm very new to Alpha5 V5, but have been programming for a while. I'm running the latest home version (Build 1506 on XP home) and have create a simple database that has a toolbar that loads an autoexec script. The script has two statements:
    - controlpanel.hide()
    - toolbar.open("MainMenu")

    The toolbar has a single button to exit the database. It plays a global script with the following commands:
    - controlpanel.show()
    - controlpanel.activate()
    - ui_modeless_dlg_close("MainMenu")

    The menu closes fine, but the ControlPanel doesn't display.

    I commented out the controlpanel.hide() in the autoexec and added two new buttons to the toolbar:
    - One to hide the ControlPanel that runs Xbasic:
    - ControlPanel.Hide()
    - One to show the ControlPanel that runs Xbasic:
    - ControlPanel.show()

    When the app runs, the ControlPanel isn't hidden, and the toolbar is. If I select the hide button, the COntrolPanel hides. if I select the show button, it does not show.

    If anyone has seen this, or I'm doing something incorrectly, please let me know.

    Regards,

    Jim Litzie

    RE: ControlPanel.show() not working

    Don't know if it's significant, but I've never opened a toolbar without a form.

      Jim,

      Try :controlpanel.show()

      That little colon in front may solve your problem.

        Pat,

        I've tried that in both places. Still the same. Could it be that the ControlPanel cannot be viewed from a dialog-box?

          Jim,

          Try typing ControlPanel.show() from the Interactive Window and see what happens. I assume that you can get the Interactive Window activated easily.

            Steve,

            Both the hide and show work from the interactive window without a problem.

              RE: ControlPanel.show() not working

              Hi Jim,

              A similar situation happened to me a few days ago. I first made sure the window bar on the bottom was showing. Then I typed in the interactive window controlpanel.show() {Enter}
              controlpanel.activate(){Enter}

              Still no control panel. However, the control panel button was active on the window bar. I also had a scroll bar on the right. But the scroll bar wouldn't let me scroll down to the bottom to get the control panel and drag it up. So I placed my mouse over the control panel button on the window bar, right clicked and selected maximize. That did it for me.

              I then closed A5 with the control panel maximized. After that it started working.

              I don't know if that will fix it for you, but give it a try.

                RE: ControlPanel.show() not working

                Dan,

                I didn't check whether the window bar was there or not before. It's not there, however it does flash with the ControlPanel.

                I ran through the code using the debugger and found this:
                - The window bar displays with the ControlPanel button in
                it right after the ControlPanel.hide() statment - the
                ControlPanel is hidden
                - The window bar disappears when the toolbar is displayed.

                Not sure if this is significant or not.

                Thanks,

                Jim

                  Re: ControlPanel.show() not working

                  I'm using V9 9 the first day and control panel disappeared on ONLY the application I was working on. Others were okay. Well, okay, after 15 years experience with A5 AND A4 I had inadvertently checked the don't show control panel in the setup.

                  I had to do a ControlPanelShow() and that did it. I was getting kinda worried though.

                  Wasn't there in one of the previous versions a keystroke during launch that would bypass this?

                    Re: ControlPanel.show() not working

                    When loading the application, hold down the control and shift key - then answer the questions about not running the autoexec, not running the start up form etc. Checking not running the start up form, will bring up the control panel
