Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Send cc to second email

    I have two fields on a form that hold email address's Email1 and Email2. I have a button on the form configured to email a report to the recipient in email1 and a carbon copy to the recipient in email2. This works unless email2 is empty. I have tried an argument in the CC field with action scripting like: if(isblank(email2),"",email2) but the test places my code in the actual email clients CC field instead of passing the fields value.

    George,

    Not sure I understand but the expression you're using is an if..else..then expressiion w/o the 'if'. What happens if you try

    iff(isblank(email2),"",email2)

    Now, assuming my suggestion is a valid expression, whether it'll do what you want, that's another thing. I expect the 'real' Xbasic professors would know just by looking at it. But, I'm not to that point yet.

      Thanks Ken, my "if" is on the line above. I should have placed it on a line by itself. I did not use the "iff" that you show. I will try that.

        Hi George

        First I don't think the expression will work where you are using it.

        You need to set a variable to a blank value and insert that varibale in the CC line.

        Thats the way I do it.

          Robert I am trying to set the variable but still get the error "MAPI Error - One or more recipients were invalid or did not resove to any address. (MAPI_E_INVALID_RECIPS)"

          I am using the following

          DIM SHARED george AS c
          george = topparent:Email2.value

          to_param = a5_eval_expression("=Email1")
          cc_param = a5_eval_expression("=Var-"george")
          bcc_param = a5_eval_expression("")
          subject_param = a5_eval_expression("=\"Loan Review RE: \"+Ln_Number")

                Hi George

                Had a senior moment.

                Is your variable compeletely empty. ie. not special characters and not spaces?

                Other wise I am stumped. Maybe if you posted a script fragment showing us how you set the variable value.

                  RE: Send cc to second email

                  Here is a screen shot of my setup. The action is assigned to a button that I built using Action Scripting (send a layout via email). The image shows the CC field being "=Email2". If Email2 is empty on my form and I click the button to send email, I get the error included in the attached image.

                  Thanks

                    Hi George

                    The only thing I can think of is there may be spaces in the email2 field.

                    I personally would not directly reference a field but create a variable that stores the field value.

                    If the field value is empty I set my variable to ="" to avoid any issues.

                    This is how I work it and experience no problem.

                      RE: Send cc to second email

                      Simple solution: I set the value for the CC parameter to "=alltrim(Email2)" without quotes.

                      Worked whether or not Email2 contained an address.

                      Thank you all for the help.
