Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

Version 5 Upgrade prices in UK

I seem to recall that Selwyn (or was it Richard?) Rabins made the promise that the cost of upgrading to Alpha5 v.4.5 would be completely recoverable (no time limit mentioned)when further upgrading to v.5.

Your UK agents (Guildsoft)are advertising the v.5 upgrade from v.4.5 (where the latter was upgraded from v.4) at 140.00 when the fullcost for a single user version is 199.00. As I paid 95.97 for the upgrade to v.4.5 I would have expected the cost to be 103.03.

For some reason, those who upgraded to v.4.5 from versions 1-3 can buy the v.5 upgrade for 100.00!

Can Selwyn or Richard explain these anomalies please?

    Regards to all

I will check with them on Monday

I believe however that the price is the price after the rebate is replied.

Since people who went to version 4.5 from an earlier version paid more that upgraders from earlier versions - their rebates will be higher

    thanks

RE: Version 5 Upgrade prices in UK

      Richard,

Thanks for your reply though don't quite understand your remark that "..the price is the price after the rebate is applied". Am I taking a too simplistic view in deducting the price I paid for v.4.5 from the quoted full price of v.5 in arriving at the price I should expect to pay for the latter?
Look forward to hearing further from you following your enquiries.

      Regards

          Richard
No, I haven't called the number you give which would appear to be that of the Software Centre in Ivybridge, Devon (although the number I have for them is 01752 897100).

I obtained my v4.5 from Guildsoft (also known as BVRP) so my first approach was to them in regard to upgrading to v5.
Since starting this correspondence with you it has occurred to me that possibly the price charged to me for v4.5 was the full price instead of the upgrade price from v4. If this was the case, then I unwittingly paid it only because no upgrade price was offered when purchased over the Internet. I notice that, although Guildsoft advertise the various prices on their website, there seems to be no mechanism for paying anything less than the full price for v5. It would have to be ordered by telephone to get the discounts.

I will ring the number you gave me tomorrow and see what they have to offer.

          Thanks for your help.

            Richard,
Have just discovered that the number you gave is for Guildsoft (are they and the Software Centre one and the same?).

My earlier reply is, therefore, not wholly relevant.

            Regards.
