Default NetMailer - Plain Text vs. HTML

While experimenting with sending an email newsletter in both HTML and with a stripped-down Plain Text message, it seems that all my NetMailer messages are being displayed as Plain Text only in my various email clients (Outlook, Netscape, Palm).

While all are set to receive Rich Text/HTML, the Plain Text message seems to override the HTML. If I leave the Plain Text box clear, the HTML version comes through loud and clear.

So, what do you think is happening? Does NetMailer default to displaying Plain Text even though email clients are set to receive HTML? Should I have a certain Header Message in the NetMailer job?

Or, have I missed some setting in each of my e-mail clients?

Thanks, in advance, for your help and thoughts.
