Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

RE: feedback on our monthly e-newsletter

I print it on a laser het and it prints fine. Perhaps if you chose a different font size for the display it would print smaller??

RE: feedback on our monthly e-newsletter

      Russ,

Many printer drivers do not have options to make such adjustments as changing font sizes, "shrink-to-fit", and so on. I often regret my old dot-matrix Epson and HP II laser printer which allowed the operator to select "condensed print" from the control panel on the front of these printers. Unfortunately, printers don't have control panels anymore. Many printers have built-in minimum margins that cut off the ends of lines when printing internet material.

RE: feedback on our monthly e-newsletter

              Richard,

The latest newsletter is top notch! Articles that are informative and useful. In addition, it is not cluttered with ads. That is they way things should be. The only improvement I could suggest is to be careful of the color combinations used. eg: light cyan on white is hard on the eyes. I had to use the cursor to highlight to be able to read. Please advise the responsible parties to stick with traditional high contrast. eg: black on white, blue on white or red on white.

              regards,
              Melvin

RE: feedback on our monthly e-newsletter

The latest issue is outstanding. (Previous issues as well.) GOOD articles written with a perfect mix of technospeak and beginnerspeak.

Don't know about anyone else, but my mental picture (I don't know what it is based on) of what Lenny looks like, for some reason does not match his picture at all. Kinda' surprising.

Baased on my limited communications with the staff at Alpha HQ, I'm amazed at the knowledge of everyone there. What is even more amazing is that they can all communicate with us users AND they don't get tired of explaining something over and over again, at least they don't show it.

Just to echo what everyone else is saying, you all are doing one hell of a job! Thanks.

OK Dave, I just gotta ask, what did you think I looked like? It's not the greatest picture of me, but it is what I look like.

                    Lenny,

For whatever reason, I had a mental image of a 'Lenny' standing about 6' 2", weighing in the neighborhood of 210-230. Maybe because it is football season?

The newsletter is great. I really appreciate the time and effort of the folks producing it.

The interviews with the Alpha folks were a great addition.
