Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

    Official mailing?

I know A5V5 may now be ordered on line.

But I prefer to show my clients the actual printed literature so they can judge for themselves the benefits.

May we expect an official mailing announcing A5v5 anytime soon?

    RE: Official mailing?

Melvin I'm not sure there is going to be an official mailing such as you want. I can understand why you would want something like that. If I needed something listing the new features though, I would print out the "What's new in V5" on some very nice 20-24# Bond paper and present it to the Client.

          Richard,

          That's more good news.

Just one more thing. I've noticed posts complianing that the
purchase of 4.5 was not automatically applied as a rebate to 5.0. Rather, the full price was applied and the purchaser then had to apply for a rebate. If that is true, it is very discouraging.

It is not a big deal. You just fill out 2 or 3 lines on a very simple form, and the rebate is credited to your credit card in short order.

              Peter,

My contention is the rebate should be immediate.

I upgraded to 4.5 with the understanding it would be applied in full to the purchhase of 5.0. _Many_ of us have waited over year for 5.0 to arrive. We should not have to wait for the rebate! If that is how Alpha Software intends on doing business, then I will certainly NOT be making any further purchases based on "future" rebates. I will wait until the product is actually shipping.

                Melvin,

This has been beat to death numerous times. While it's not as convenient as you and I would have liked, it WORKS!!!

I got my rebate credited to my credit card withn 10 days or so. Point is. I GOT IT!!!! And, by purchasing v4.5, I received enhancements which included a much needed fix on indexing (stability). Further more, for me, v4.5 was FREE !!

So, if you're going to get on Alpha's case, please find something new! Raising OLD issues from the dead....May the ole horse rest in peace!

                  Melvin,

If you pay by credit card the rebate comes on the same statement as the purchase so it is immediate.

                    Bill,

Thank you. That is more reasonable.

                    Ken,

I am not beating a dead horse. I posed a query and then voiced my position to the response. This forum is here because it allows _everyone_ to express their opinion and discuss it within reason. You may object to the questions or the opinions of others, but it is no excuse to berate them.

                      RE: Official mailing?

Bill is correct, for the most part.

I received credit within days of my credit card being billed, and had the credit on the same statement as the charge. However, there can be cases in which this will not happen. Depends on your statement's closing date. If, for instance, you are billed near the end of your statement's billing date and receive the credit a few days later in the next billing cycle, then you will have to pay before receiving the credit on your next months statement. So try not to order at the end of your billing period if you want the credit on the same statement as the charge.

Of course, if you're using a credit card, you don't have to pay for 30 days anyway. If you pay online like I do, you can schedule the payment near the due date.

As for beating a dead horse, you're not doing that if you weren't part of the earlier discussion. As far as I'm concerned, for you the issue is clearly alive and kicking.
