Bonus TIPS for Successful Posting

Try a Search First
It is highly recommended that a Search be done on your topic before posting, as many questions have been answered in prior posts. As with any search engine, the shorter the search term, the more "hits" will be returned, but the more specific the search term is, the greater the relevance of those "hits". Searching for "table" might well return every message on the board while "tablesum" would greatly restrict the number of messages returned.

When you do post
First, make sure you are posting your question in the correct forum. For example, if you post an issue regarding Desktop applications on the Mobile & Browser Applications board , not only will your question not be seen by the appropriate audience, it may also be removed or relocated.

The more detail you provide about your problem or question, the more likely someone is to understand your request and be able to help. A sample database with a minimum of records (and its support files, zipped together) will make it much easier to diagnose issues with your application. Screen shots of error messages are especially helpful.

When explaining how to reproduce your problem, please be as detailed as possible. Describe every step, click-by-click and keypress-by-keypress. Otherwise when others try to duplicate your problem, they may do something slightly different and end up with different results.

A note about attachments
You may only attach one file to each message. Attachment file size is limited to 2MB. If you need to include several files, you may do so by zipping them into a single archive.

If you forgot to attach your files to your post, please do NOT create a new thread. Instead, reply to your original message and attach the file there.

When attaching screen shots, it is best to attach an image file (.BMP, .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc.) or a zip file of several images, as opposed to a Word document containing the screen shots. Because Word documents are prone to viruses, many message board users will not open your Word file, therefore limiting their ability to help you.

Similarly, if you are uploading a zipped archive, you should simply create a .ZIP file and not a self-extracting .EXE as many users will not run your EXE file.

      RE: A5v5 BETA Feedback

As I recall at the conference we were told that the date could be entered without charecters but at the moment it is not working. Selwyn did say that was the same as Excel, I have tried it in Excel and if you enter 01012002 it gives you October 6 4670 so that aint so smart. I agree with Jeremy lets keep the mask, the user recognises it and therefore knows what and how to enter the data, Date.

        Keith,

Thanks for the update. I was at the conference, but I missed that one. The old method worked just fine, so I don't know why they would change it, but I am sure someone had a reason.

          RE: A5v5 BETA Feedback

Would I be correct in saying that the Beta version does not have the 'opewrations' tab enabled eg Append routines etc. Or there now a different method?

Also am i correct that printing a selection of records from a browse is not yet enabled?

If I create a database in V5, can i still use it if V4 ie backwards compatable??

            RE: A5v5 BETA Feedback

not sure about the first two questions, but yes it is a beta so don't expect everything to work. DO NOT however open stuff in V5 that you will need to open in V4 or 4.5. You might be asking for trouble. Forms developed in V5 will not open in V4 or 4.5.

Just a clarification on backwards compatibility. If I understand correctly the data "DBF, MDX" is backwards compatible. Forms are not.

                  Dear Ken

Yes, yes I know that this thread should really be in the other section, not announcements, but I just followed the others talking about A5V5 feedback. Maybe when there is a new message board for V5.................

                    Hi Jeremy,

There will be a v5 board but probably not until v5 is officially released. In the mean time, posting questions about v5 on the v4 message board will help a lot more folks and wet the appetite of many others.

                    Just my thoughts, FWIW?

                      RE: A5v5 BETA Feedback

I too had this problem with v5 beta. However if u enter 04 space 15 you do not have to enter the date and it works fine to get the date 04/15/2002. I actually had to do this in another program I used to use to get the date. I do like the other way better but this is usable.
